What's new for the 2014 Wrangler?

Two years removed from its last notable update, the Jeep Wrangler rolled into 2014 with some minor changes to its flagship Sport, Sahara and Rubicon designs, but did add several new color options and a host of special edition vehicles.

New for 2014 are clear signal lenses across the line, the UConnect infotainment system now available for the base Sport Wrangler, as well as a ‘trail kit’ for all vehicles featuring D-rings, tow strap, and gloves. As far as colors for 2014 Wranglers, Jeep offered Amp’d, Anvil, Copperhead, Billet Silver, Bright White, Black, Dune, Flame Red, and Granite Crystal. One other color, Hydro Blue, was resigned only to the Freedom Special Edition. Speaking of those special editions, Jeep released the following for its 2014 model year: Altitude, Polar, Dragon, Rubicon X (formally the Rubicon 10th Anniversary), and the Willys Wheeler – most available in both 2dr and 4dr versions. Special Edition vehicles have unique features such as colorful trim packages, custom interior layouts, or hood, bumper and wheel/tire combinations.

All 2014 Wranglers continued to be powered by the award-winning Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine which pumps out 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while averaging about 17/21 mpg for city/hwy. Maximum payload capacity on the vehicle remained at 1,000 lbs, while towing capacity sat at 2,000 lbs for the 2dr and 3,500 lbs on the Unlimited. Classic round headlamps, a seven-slot grille, trapezoid wheel flares, removable doors, exposed hinges, fold-down windshield, and removable hard or soft tops round out the line and allow the Wrangler to retain the brand’s iconic appearance and function. Six-speed manual and five-speed automatic remained the transmissions of choice.

For the Wrangler’s interior, black and dark saddle trims were available, as well as a lockable center console, available heated seats, power outlets, available 6.5” touchscreen infotainment system and Electronic Vehicle Information System.

The Wrangler Sport model (base MSRP $22,395), Sahara (base MSRP $28,295), and Rubicon (base MSRP $31,195) continued to be the power ‘three’ models for Jeep for 2014. Both Sport and Sahara offered Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear axles, 16” (Sport), 18” (Sahara), and 17” (Rubicon) wheels, as well as a Command-Trac NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case that features a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. An optional Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential will provide extra torque and grip in low-traction environments such as sand, mud or snow for those who wish that extra traction control. Rubicon model features heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles and a Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio.

As well equipped as your 2014 Wrangler is from the factory, there is always room for improvement! You can check out all the available 2014 Jeep Wrangler accessories here.
