The Moab Chamber of Commerce started the Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah in 1967 as a simple get together to enjoy the surrounding terrain of their city. In the early 80's the Red Rock Four Wheelers stepped up to help and since then the event has grown from a weekend get together to a nine-day event with the culmination of events being the "Big Saturday" of Easter weekend.
