Paragon Adventure Park In Danger of Closing
Wednesday February 14th, 2007
"Paragon”
”Not Just A Name But A Way Of Life"
Despite temperatures dipping into the single digits, hundreds of off-road enthusiasts awoke early Saturday morning not just to go wheeling, but also to say “thank-you”.
Recently the largest off-road park in the North East, Paragon Adventure Park, is in danger of having to close their gates. The property and Paragon’s lease has fallen into dispute with the property owner wishing to sell the property for development into a cargo airport.
Upon learning about the “uphill battle” Paragon Adventure Park was going to face, a loyal group from the off-road community came together and formed a benefit ride for the weekend of February 3rd and 4th. All the proceeds of the event went to assist Paragon with their legal fees in trying to keep control of the property.
Lee Raider, a Paragon Park regular, organized a raffle that was held with prizes donated from vendors from across the country. Vendors ranging from Quadratec, Inc., A to Z Fabrication, OK 4-Wheel Drive & Skyjacker Suspension donated items like tow-straps, winches, high lift jacks, and gift certificates.
Saturday morning arrived and anyone pulling into the parking lot dove into a sea of orange Paragon flags proudly waiving from their CB antennas. The total number of vehicles signed up for the ride on Saturday reached 476 not counting the ATV’s, which is the highest total ever in the park for one day.
The day began with a heart-warming speech by Kyle Knosp, the owner of Paragon Adventure Park, expressing his thanks for everyone coming and helping to make the benefit ride a success. Spirits were high as it was emphasized that Paragon was not just an address, but that it was the 476 + people standing in the staging area that cold morning with their Paragon flags and their desire to go four wheeling that made Paragon Adventure Park what it is today.
Kyle assured everyone that Paragon Adventure Park is not gone, but will just be moving to a different address, and that the dream will be kept alive.
As the various makes of vehicles pulled out of the staging area, everyone was aware that this would likely be the last time they would be wheeling in the original Paragon Adventure Park. In this somber moment heads were held high, knowing that this was not the end however, but rather a stepping-stone leading to bigger and better things for the off-road community.
