The problem with the stock transfer case shifter linkage is that it attaches your shifter to the body and is then attached to the transfer case. It's a rather poor design from the start. Here's why. When a '97-'02 Wrangler has a body lift, engine swap, transmission swap, riser motor mounts or a high clearance belly pan, the transfer case shifter will bind making it very difficult to engage or disengage the transfer case.
