Clean, dry air is vital to any engine and around town or on the highway a 4-wheel drive's stock air filter does an admirable job of protecting it from contamination. However, once that vehicle hits the trail, deep water crossings and plumes of thick bull dust can overwhelm its stock filter and literally destroy its engine. Experienced 4-wheel drive explorers have long known this and consider raising their engines' air-intakes a vital step in creating greater protection. PRE-FILTER
AEV's Pre-Filter is designed to extend engine filter life in the dustiest environments. By inhaling air and forcing it into a high-speed, cyclonic motion - heavy dust and water is forced to the outside of the Pre-Filter's bowl where it is captured. The remaining clean air is then drawn down the neck of the Snorkel body and over to the engine's air filter. Because the air charge that arrives at the air filter is so clean, the air filter's life is dramatically increased.

Over the course of time, the driver will notice that the clear bowl of the Pre-Filter will begin to show signs of filling with dirt and other debris. This is an indication that it should be emptied and reinstalled, which is a quick and easy process. It should be noted that AEV's Pre-filter uses no paper of foam filter elements. It works entirely on cyclonic air movement and centrifugal force. As a result, it is simple, easy to maintain and will last for years.

AIR RAM
AEV's Air Ram is designed to handle the battering that tight, heavily-wooded conditions can dole out. Like the Snorkel body itself, the Air Ram is made from cross-link polyethylene. This is the same material used to construct white water kayaks and it is nearly indestructible. It also gives AEV the ability to design a more stylish, integrated-look for the top of Snorkel.

Though the Air Ram is no match for the Pre-Filter's ability to remove dirt from incoming air, it has the ability to separate rain from the air charge. It does this by using the force of the incoming air to direct the rain toward small weep ports built into its backside. This design is so effective that drivers will often find their air box is completely dry even after hours of freeway driving in heavy rainfall.
