These are the best, at both sitting and supporting, seats that I have tried. They are a bit pricey comparatively, but are holding up quite well and worth the investment. These will install directly onto standard seat sliders, no adapter needed. However, these do sit a bit high. A tilt steering wheel is helpful if you are a generously-sized person or like driving up close to the pedals. A 4 or 5 point restraint works well with these, as do standard lap belts.

Before the review on the seats and seat mount, I want to say what a pleasure it was to deal with both Quadratec and Corbeau. These are both first class, very ethical businesses. I had a problem with the drivers-side seat, at the end of install, which was almost two weeks after the seats had been received. When I finally removed the plastic and bubble wrap, I found what I am pretty sure was a cut from a razor knife where whoever packaged the seat cut the tape. Between the fact that there was a fair amount of time that had elapsed, along with they are both out of my state, Internet based companies you deal with by email and telephone, they could basically have told me to go away and there isn’t a lot I could have done. Cutting to the chase, the problem was handled first by Quadratec, then by Corbeau, with no additional out-of-pocket expense on my part, in a prompt, courteous and very professional manner. My seats are installed and I am, as a customer, 100% satisfied.

I have a dead stock, 2009 JK X model I bought new, and when I say dead stock, I mean no frills whatsoever (out of the two dozen JK’s on the lot, it was the only one available with a manual transmission). There isn’t even a console, just a molded plastic tunnel cover with a cup holder. I ordered the seats from Quadratec, but had to order the mounts from Corbeau, as I wanted the double locking seat release, not available from Quadratec. A week or so later, both the seats and the mounts were delivered. They are very well packaged, as I mentioned above, totally covered in bubble wrap, then plastic bagged. I left all the plastic on to avoid grease and dirt from the installation.

Quadratec lists installing these as “intermediate” level, as well as listing the tools necessary. The “intermediate” is probably accurate, as long as you don’t have to change or modify anything. I have no clue where they came up with the tool list, but it’s a little light. I needed an air impact gun, 18mm socket to get the floor bolts out the first time (4 per seat, M12x1.75, 50mm long Type 10.9 flange heads if you need to replace them). Take the doors off ahead of time. Disconnect any wiring from under the seats beforehand as well. Once the seats are out, you’ll need to remove the seatbelt receiver from the inboard side of each seat (#40 Torx).

The mounts themselves are fairly Spartan, pretty much bent up 3/16” flat steel stock welded on a jig without a lot of finish work. The four mounting holes mostly match up with the four bolt holes in the floor, at least with a little prying. They mount to the base of the seat with 4 Allen-head machine screws. Unfortunately, when the seat is attached to the mount (6 mm, do yourself a big favor and get a T-handled wrench with at least a 5 or 6” shaft), then the seatbelt receiver is attached, it didn’t come close to fitting. The seatbelt receiver hit the side of the “console”.

I called Corbeau (“we never heard of that”), and to their credit, they offered to let me ship the mounts back and they would build me “custom” mounts. I saw that as a non-starter, as not counting the 8-10 day or so turnaround, if they didn’t make them fit from my measurements the first time, I’d go old and broke shipping them back and forth. There is simply no practical way they could cut, tack, test-fit and adjust. I took them to a local metal fab shop who have a good deal of Jeep modification experience as well as understanding the need for full penetration welds. With my Jeep there, it still took them two attempts to get them right. A note, once you modify the seat mount, Corbeau’s liability for the mount goes out the window; you own it.

Once the mods were complete, the seats went right in (floor bolts, 45’ lbs. of torque). The problem with generic-fit seats is that one size does not fit all, and the Wranglers don’t have a wide cabin. I cannot rack the seats all the way back, as the plastic seat recliner shroud hits the plastic shroud around the seat belt retractor just behind the doors. In my case, not a huge problem since I’m under 6’. But, as another reviewer wrote, you don’t work on Jeeps if you don’t expect to have to modify things.

The seats are in and they are great. They are much more comfortable and supportive than the stock seats were right from the factory. Getting both in and out, you kind of have to lift yourself over the outboard bolster, but once you’re in, you feel locked in solid and secure. I got mine with the cloth panels, and I have no idea how they will wear. For now, my initial impression is very well made and well worth the time it took.
