Replace your balky AX5 with a New Venture NV4500 Transmission. The NV4500 is used in both the GM & Dodge truck applications. There have been numerous NV4500 transmission conversions in almost every type of 4WD vehicle due to its nearly indestructible design. The factory transmissions used in Wranglers have proven to be inadequate for aggressive off-road driving. They do not hold up over time under extreme conditions. The NV4500 is the ultimate HD Tranny. Features include 5.61:1 first gear with a 27% overdrive.
We offer complete NV4500 adapter packages for 89-01 four cylinder Wrangler w/AX5 transmission. Most kits include bell housing when necessary, transfer case adapter, crossmember mount, clutch linkage, and necessary transfer case linkage components and (of course) a rebuilt NV4500 transmission. These kits are very complete.
Some modification required: ( Shift linkage, cutting floor, etc).
