Many people drive a Jeep specifically for that rugged, outdoor, go anywhere attitude. But if you are still using the restrictive factory exhaust, you definitely are not getting everything you can out of the vehicle. Today’s aftermarket upgrades like cat-back exhaust systems, headers, and performance mufflers are great ways to add power, torque and fuel efficiency, while lowering emissions and changing the vehicle’s sound – if you choose.

Free-flowing cat back exhaust systems are extremely popular and help add performance because their mandrel bent piping is less restrictive – allowing an easier exhaust flow through all curves versus factory piping that is pinched at bend points. These exhausts are also great for those who love to work on their vehicles as the kits come complete with everything needed for install.

Performance headers are designed to replace the stock exhaust manifold, and their individual tubes allow exhaust to flow unobstructed from the engine - thus eliminating back pressure and boosting power as well as low-end torque. For Jeeps, short tube headers are generally the most popular because these headers are more easily able to fit the vehicle’s engine compartment. Plus, they are designed to directly connect to existing pipe flanges, which makes cutting or welding unnecessary.

Finally, replacement performance-type mufflers can help exhaust flow and change the vehicle’s exhaust note. These mufflers can be either ‘direct fit’ - meaning they are offered to fit specific year-range Jeeps - or ‘universal fit’ which may need modification on certain vehicles. Direct fit mufflers are usually bolt-on applications that closely match the OE muffler in fitment and work well with the DIY crowd. Universal fit mufflers work on many different types of vehicles and often require professional installation, as cutting and welding are usually needed for fitment. It is also a good idea to know your vehicle’s exhaust piping dimensions as many of these mufflers are designed for specific sizes.
