Reviews for Smittybilt 3" Sure Steps for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
excellent
Installed quickly and easily. All mounting holes lined up perfectly to the frame and individual mounting brackets. The installation instructions weren't too bad to follow. My only wish would be that the steps were a little lower on the car body so that entry and exit would be a little easier.
I love the looks and durability of these side steps! The only suggestion I have for Smittybuilt is to make the installation instructions a little clearer and possibly separate/label bolts.
Steps are very sturdy. Installed the steps in about 35 minutes. Wished there was some sort of gasket between the hardware and pinch seam on the rocker panels. For the money can't complain.
Took much longer to install than I expected. The kit comes with both 10mm and 8mm mounting bolts depending on if a bracket (included) is needed for 10mm in the event that the pre-holes aren't there. I have a 2014 JK that had pre-drilled factory floor holes.
The factory holes were MUCH TOO small for the 8mm bolts to fit. I contacted Quadratec (as ALWAYS EXCELLENT customer service!) and searched online via Smittybilt and YouTube to see if perhaps I needed to buy smaller bolts but all information indicated that the included parts were correct.
After going to a hardware store to buy smaller bolts, i ran into another Jeep enthusiast that had the same issue at one point in time. The solution was to drill into the pre-holes to widen them. That did work and ultimately they are mounted and look great. Have to give 4 stars though, due to the drilling.
nice product but took a little longer than expected to install
Easy to install, and give a nice look to the Jeep by covering factory pinch seam. I had these installed for 2 years with zero issues. My only issue is THESE ARE NOT ROCK RAILS, and they are not very sturdy for offroad use. I bent the tubing fairly easily when brushed against a rock when wheeling. However, if you’re looking for a step rail and only do light trail riding with no rocks, then these will work great. If you climb rocks, invest in some serious rock rails so you don’t get your feelings hurt while wheeling.
I'm giving 3 stars because not only a great addition to my jeep & looked great & much lighter than the rocker guards that I had.
About 2 months in the smittybilt plastic step started to come up & separate from the bar. I also went wheeling on Green/Blue trails at Rausch Creek & the slightest rub against a rock of stump & it didnt hold up. I'm gonna be forced to at a different brand. My pax side step was pushed in with ease but I will say it did its job & took the brunt & protected the rigs body.
I loved my steps ... until almost year 3 when they were just completed rusted! I've never taken them on the beach ... I don't think this level of rust should have happened.
Mine rusted completely through in 3 years.
