Will this fit a 1972 Jeep Commando, it looks like it would.
If they are visibly similar then it should fit. The manufacturer does not list any fitment outside the CJ series, but the 1972 CJ used the same transmission and transfer case as the 104 Commando, which is important for the parking brake system as it is mounted between the two units. Many parts fit both series but are not listed as such due to Jeep only listing two different styles in service manuals, the DJ3 Postal Jeep and the Universal (all other Jeep models).

No, this will only fit a 1972 or some odd reason. Earlier and later model releases are not available.
