The type of tire you choose really depends on how you plan to use your Jeep, the terrain you’ll be driving over and the look you’re going for. A mud terrain tire offers aggressive looks and has been designed with off road driving in mind. Mud terrain tires feature large tread lugs with high void areas between them designed to assist the tires self cleaning ability to remove mud, sand, snow or rocks. Because the tire is self cleaning, the large lugs can stay effective at grabbing the terrain you’re driving on.
Mud terrain tires also offer large sidewall lugs that assist in gaining and keeping traction when driving on slick rocks while off road. It is worth noting, however, that while the large tread lug design is great for off road driving, it can lend itself to pretty loud, and not necessarily the smoothest ride when you’re back on the pavement. This comes at a trade off for the excellent performance off road.
