The Crown Automotive Steel Tailgate is a replacement for the factory original tailgate used in early TJ Wranglers up to 2002. If you are replacing the tailgate on a Wrangler 97-02 then you can swap all of your parts over and be back on the road once the paint has dried. The Crown tailgate has holes punched for vehicle wiring, hinges and handle and latch hardware, all available separately. This tailgate can reuse the factory tire carrier or after market heavy duty tire carriers that mount like factory carriers. Please note: Does not fit 2003+..
Primer Coat: Black primer coat applied at the factory to protect from corrosion during storage and shipment, minor finishing work will be required prior to painting.
Factory Parts: Accepts factory tailgate parts and hardware from 1997-2002.
Punched and Drilled: Holes for latches, hinges and tire carriers have been punched and weld nuts have been installed to accept OE hardware

Only issue was the lock from the old tail gate is a little bigger then the hole in this tail gate. Other then that fits perfectly fine.
Having the same issues as the other people that made reviews here. The stock lock doesn’t fit the hole! Not sure what to do here! Take a dremel and open the hole a bit bigger so the factory lock fits. Or try to find the correct lock that fits it. The person said crown replacement lock but what’s the part number so I don’t get the wrong set. Also then I’ll have an extra key. Would have to take it to a locksmith and have them recode it to the original lock to keep the same key. If this is supposed to be an aftermarket replacement for the factory tailgate they need to make it more to the Chrysler specs so people wouldn’t have to go through the crap we have to go through to make this work. Come on now crown!!! I have heard crown is the best for replacement parts that fit a Jeep Wrangler! Well! I don’t know about that now!!!
I ordered one for my 04. Hinges mounted fine along with latch hardware. The OEM lock would not fit nor would the inside latch cover. Had to order a crown lock kit then had to get a latch clip from jeep for an 02 to hold lock. This fit my 04 but is really for up to 02.
