Samco®XDB - EXPLAINED
Samco's silicone Jeep coolant hoses are hand-made in the UK using multiple layers of silicone rubber reinforced with specialist fabrics rated to over 350oF. Depending on the application, Samco use either 3 or 4 plies, using a reinforcing wire helix where necessary to prevent hose collapse under vacuum conditions. All hoses are then 100% quality inspected in the UK. The resulting hoses offer a lifetime of reliable performance, guaranteed not to perish or crack like standard black rubber hoses.
Additional Nomex XDB PLY
With their Xtreme Duty Build (XDB) technology, Samco add an extra 4th or 5th Nomex® high temperature ply. This gives maximum protection from radiant heat sources under the hood, protecting the core hose from heat ageing effects - vital when engine ventilation is reduced such as when the vehicle is used in low speed off-road & trail work.
This ply also increases the hose's burst pressure by over 30%* - specifically in the weakest areas of a hose at mid-span.
Tuff-Cuff hose ends
Hose clamping is often misunderstood - thick hoses are great for handling pressure, but the more soft material that is present under a clip, the less clamping force is achieved on the pipe (and over time, clamp torque is lost as the material 'relaxes' or 'sets' under the stress).
With XDB, the final Nomex® ply is intentionally removed for an 18mm section at each end of the hose. By removing this material from under the clip, the 'setting' effects are dramatically reduced, and maximum clamp pressure transmission is achieved up to 40%* improvement compared to black rubber hose. (Removing this section does not weaken the hose in any way - even after this section is removed, this area is still stronger than the mid-section because it is protected from radial expansion due to the proximity of the hose clip.)
The final feature of XDB is the prominent 'end shoulder' - this block of material prevents the hose 'sub-marining' underneath the clip as the hose takes on pressure. The combined effect of these technologies is a hose which offers the burst performance of a 4 ply silicone hose (up to 100%* higher than black rubber) but with a 40%* higher 'blow-off' force.
