If my jeep has this top installed and I want to change it back to a normal soft top, will the new soft top use the current hardware or will I need all new hardware for the new top?
If you are currently running the Bestop Trektop NX (which is a frameless, fastback-style soft top) and want to switch back to a factory-style (OEM) soft top, you will need to acquire all the necessary hardware for the factory top.
Why You Need New Hardware:
The Trektop NX is Frameless: This top design is "frameless," meaning it does not use the complex bow assembly, folding mechanism, or tensioning hardware that a factory soft top requires. It mounts directly to the vehicle's sport bar and utilizes your factory door surrounds.
Factory Tops Use a Bow Assembly: A standard factory-style soft top is a "frame-mounted" system. It requires the factory folding bow assembly (the metal frame that expands and retracts) that attaches to the rear of the Jeep's body tub. Are the doors part of the supporting structure or can they be removed?
The doors are not part of the supporting structure for the Bestop Trektop NX and can be completely removed at any time.

It Looks like the top panel always stays on. Is there any way to completely remove the soft top?
You'd have to detach the hardware to fully remove the top deck.

They are both black in color. Sailcloth Black Diamond is slick to the touch like vinyl. Twill is thicker fabric that is a canvas feel and the finish and appearance is similar to high end sports car convertible tops. Twill holds it's color better and looks fantastic again after saturating downpours. Twill is very low maintenance and has much better longevity. Twill will be better with exterior road noise as well. Can you drop the top like a convertible?
