I see that these are made by JW Speaker. JW Speaker recommends a bucket style adapter but these have brackets only. What's the advantage of one over the other, other than price? Are these equivalent to the 8700 Evolution J2?

While Quadratec's Premium LED Headlights are indeed manufactured by JW Speaker, they are a specialized version designed specifically for the Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT.
Bucket Adapters vs. Bracket Mounts
The primary difference between these two mounting styles is how they interface with the Jeep's headlight cavity and the level of protection they provide.
Bracket Mounts (Quadratec Design): These use high-strength aluminum or steel plates to hold the 7-inch LED unit within the larger 9-inch JL/JT opening.
Advantage: They are lighter and allow for better airflow around the headlight housing, which can help with heat dissipation.
Ease of Install: They generally offer a more direct bolt-on experience for the newer Jeep generations.
Bucket Style Adapters (Standard JW Speaker): These are full polycarbonate or metal cups that the headlight sits inside.
Advantage: The bucket provides a complete seal behind the light, protecting the wiring and the back of the housing from mud, road salt, and debris kicked up inside the fender well.
Stability: Buckets often provide a more rigid mounting surface that can reduce "headlight flutter" (vibration) on extremely bumpy roads.
Comparison to the 8700 Evolution J2
The Quadratec Premium LED Projector Headlights are not identical to the 8700 Evolution J2, though they share much of the same internal technology.
The 8700 Evolution J2 is a "universal" 7-inch light originally designed for the older Wrangler JK. The Quadratec Premium version for the JL/JT is a 9-inch integrated design (meaning the 7-inch optic is pre-mounted in a 9-inch frame) specifically tuned for the electrical system of the newer Jeeps.
