Cup holders are not designed well for most typically cups due to not being deep enough or having a large enough diameter opening on lower section. Typical YEDI steel coffee cup and large insulated tumbler do not fit.

Nice piece but I would not put anything in it That needs to be secured. It’s wood and can be levered open pretty easy. It’s just a storage box that might defer someone in a hurry. If you line with thin sheets of foam insulation and plastic it will hold a few cans and ice
