Reviews for Fairchild Industries Inner Shifter Boot for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ with 5-Speed Manual Transmission
Exactly what I was looking for to replace the shredded on that I had in place. The new boot is a bit stiff when first install but I would assume that this would change over time with movement through the gears/4WD as well as a few years of temperature changes. Overall I like the product. Shipping was fast and the quality of the product is good and appears to be very heavy duty. This was also great for keeping noise/heat out of the driving compartment.
Installed. The holes line up in place. The quality of the product looks good. The price is reasonable.

Inner boot is a must have but often overlooked item. The '87 YJ we're restoring didn't have the inner boot, just the outer cover. Don't short-cut and read a message board to prepare for this job... You'll need a hair dryer to heat the plastic for flexibility and Vaseline to get it over the shifters! It's a tough job but it will fit perfectly once its on there. The seal we get to the floor tub is worth it. No more heat/cold/road grime entry.
Thankfully I read the other review that mentions getting the rubber hot and using some petroleum jelly to fit this snugly over the posts. I drove around with it in the dash, defrost heat on blast, then lubed up each shifter. Slid right in place. Take care to watch which bolts go in before the outer boot goes on, you don't want to block a bolt spot for the top boot. This sucker fits so perfect you'll think it doesn't. Get your lube out. It'll fit.
Had to do some trimming but they’ll do the job well!
