Has anyone replaced this part specifically. I don't see how the tensioner cable would come out of the old one.

Removing the tensioner cable from a Jeep JL/JT soft top typically involves the following general steps. Keep in mind that the exact process can vary slightly depending on the specific type of soft top (standard, premium, or different aftermarket brands). Always refer to your soft top's specific owner's manual or installation instructions for the most accurate guidance.
Here's a general approach:
1. Partially Lower the Soft Top:
Lower the soft top a bit from its fully raised and latched position. You usually don't need to fully lower it. The goal is to relieve some tension on the cable and expose its connection points.
2. Locate the Tensioner Cable Ends:
The tensioner cables are usually thin, coated metal cables that run along the sides of the soft top frame.
They are typically attached at the front near the windshield header and at the rear towards the back of the Jeep, often near the tailgate or the rear bow of the frame.
Look for small loops, barrels, or clips that secure the cable ends to the frame.
3. Detach the Rear Cable End:
Identify the attachment mechanism: This could be a plastic plug, a metal clip, a barrel that fits into a slot, or a small screw.
Release the tension (if necessary): If the cable is under significant tension, you might need to carefully maneuver the soft top frame slightly to create some slack.
Remove the cable:
Plastic Plug: You might need to gently pry this out with a small flathead screwdriver or your fingers.
Metal Clip: These usually need to be unclipped or slid off.
Barrel in a Slot: You might need to wiggle the cable to align the barrel with an opening in the slot to remove it.
Small Screw: If there's a screw, use the appropriate screwdriver to loosen and remove it.
4. Detach the Front Cable End:
Similar to the rear, locate how the cable is attached at the front.
This might involve a barrel that fits into a slot on the windshield header or another type of clip or fastener.
Carefully detach the cable end from its anchor point.
Important Considerations:
Take Pictures: Before you start removing anything, it's a good idea to take pictures of how the cable is routed and attached at both ends. This will be very helpful when you need to reinstall it.
Be Gentle: Avoid using excessive force, as you could damage the cable or the soft top frame components.
Keep Track of Parts: If there are any small clips or fasteners, make sure to keep them in a safe place so you don't lose them.
Reason for Removal: Understand why you are removing the cable. If you are replacing it, have the new cable ready for installation.
Reinstallation: Installation is generally the reverse of removal. Make sure the cable is routed correctly and securely attached at both ends with the appropriate tension.
If you encounter difficulties or are unsure about any step, it's always best to consult your Jeep's service manual or seek assistance from a qualified mechanic or a soft top specialist. They will have the specific knowledge for your exact soft top model.

Does it come with tension cable? If not, is it really possible to install the cable from the old one? Taking a quick look at it makes me think that cable is there for good.

Mopar lists folding tension cables separate from the soft top deck. They will be reused from the original top if they are still in good shape. Thanks for your inquiry.

When you say just the skin, your saying just the actual twill part of the top, not the frame that the twill attaches to?

That is correct.

I damaged the top of my Gladiator soft top - the frame is bent, but the sail cloth is fine. Do you sell that frame assembly? I don't need the rear or side panels, just to top frame without the sail cloth.

Does this come with the hardware to attach to the gladiator? I am looking for a rain proof top with no windows or rear.

This does not include any of the hardware, this is simply a replacement skin for a damaged original top.
