The rack is designed to mount to the Jeep's roll bars using hand bolts (for the middle bar) and thumb bolts (for the rear bar). These mounting points are independent of the soft top itself.

Do these only work when the soft top is down? Do you have any racks that can mount with the soft top closed position?
As long as nothing is mounted on the rack, your soft top can be closed with the rack remaining on your Jeep. Thanks for your inquiry.

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with factory hardtop. I would like to use this rack to haul my kayaks when I go topless. Can I just install the roof rack when I take my top off?
