Is this a 2wd AX15 or 4wD, the output shaft is different between the two. How do we know?

Individuals, hoping to replace their AX5 occasionally assume the AX15 will replace it directly. The bellhousing patterns and spline counts between these similar appearing transmissions are deceivingly close, but not compatible. Thank you for the question.

These AX15 transmissions feature a 13 degree tailhousing rotation and are exact replacement transmissions for 1997-2000 Jeep TJ Wranglers. So they are not compatible to a YJ without shift linkage modifications

What gear oil is recommended
Advanced Adapters recommends 10w-30 motor oil for this transmission instead of traditional gear oil.

No. the gearing is such for the 97-99 4.0L engine. Damage to other drive train components could occur if used outside of the stated application.
