Reviews for Smittybilt 76717 SMI SRC Roof Rack in Textured Black for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
I love my rack. It fit well and was easy to install. The instructions were fantastic and they provided more than enough hardware. I had to drill into the body to put the back brackets in but the instructions gave precise locations and it worked perfectly. The only down side is the bars across the top. The hand mount bolts on top are plastic and after a few times removing them they strip out. I take mine off all the time to open my top so I keep a #10 socket and an Allen wrench in the cubbie under the floor mat when I need it.
One more thing. This rack eats 4 miles to the gallon in wind resistance.
Easy to install, definitely need 2 people, there is an error in the installation instructions where the one page states that is is not compatible with the SRC aftermarket bumper but it bolted on without any problems. Much heavier construction than I anticipated, should last a long time, some wind noise but not as bad as I was expecting, no flutter of the soft tyop.
Install was very quick and easy. I quickly found that I needed to apply dry film lube to all the connection points to prevent annoying squeaking. Great Product!
Very sturdy rack system and super easy installation. I am looking forward to seeing how it holds up in off-road and overland adventures. Although the install was simple, the directions are not all the clear and could affect someone with out mechanical skill.
I was able to install it by myself. To make the install easier I had a soft top so I put that down and I put a 2x4 across the jeep width wise to hold the cross bars while I installed the back end. This way multiple people were not required. Still have a huge bag of bolts and etc., not sure what they are for. Also I was short many washers and locknuts, just went hardware store because did not want to wait for them to be shipped. That is the only reason I have given them 4 stars.
Rack is great, I researched for a long tome(almost 1 yr) and never came across anything that said it won’t work with a smittybilt src rear bumper. We had to significantly customize the rear bumper to allow the rack to bolt into the frame. It looks great now, but took way more time than described. Poor notes on fitment with aftermarket bumpers.
Quality for the money this is top notch. I installed it alone a week before Hurricane Irma hit Jax Beach. Just in case I needed it to haul more of my belongings. I ended up riding it out and cant wait to add the basket and awning. Its super great at hauling my surfboards. I would recommend having a buddy help install. The only reason I did not give 5- stars is it is already beginning to rust in a few spots and it holds water so I needed to make some drain holes. I added the wind jammer to help with wind noise. Overall a solid purchase.
Quality product. I am running the stock rear bumper, for now, but wanted to frame mount the rack. I made a few cuts to the bumper and all worked well. The rack it pretty noisy, so I bought a wind deflector to cut back on the noise. I bought the Garvin 44088 just because it was less expensive. In order for it to fit properly with this rack I had to remove the Light tabs on the front bar. I wasn't going to use them anyway. There is still additional wind noise but it is now at a tolerable level.
I've had this installed for a few weeks. Loved the way it looked and was extremely happy with it. Then I drove my Jeep above 50 mph. Wow it creates a huge amount of wind noise! I may be taking it off. I would welcome any ideas to improve this.
Warning you cannot put the top down with this roof rack unless you partially disassemble it. It says you can in the description but this is not true. Otherwise it's a sturdy rack.
