Reviews for Mopar 68045040AA Locking Fuel Tank Cap for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Great product. Works perfectly on a 2017 Rubicon Recon, despite the fact that Mopar says it will not fit. Beware, however, as there are no instructions. DO NOT trial the new cap to make sure it fits as once you put it on, it will not come off until the lock is keyed and inserted into the cap. I had to go to the local Jeep dealership immediately to have the lock keyed. Service desk wanted to charge me an hour of shop time plus parts, to the tune of about $150. The parts department helped out and total cost was $25 to fix the lock to my ignition key. I'd recommend just taking it to a local locksmith and have them do it. Most charge $10-15 for the service.
I made the mistake of inserting the cylinder before having it keyed to for my ignition key. The dealer was able to disassemble it and remove the cylinder to key it. He actually popped it apart and then snapped it back together.
Very nice to have the ignition key work on the gas cap! Less keys to carry around! Also, it is a well made product!
Super easy to install and lock. Time will tell if it was worth it but I feel better knowing it's there.
So far, so good. Cap seems to fit better than any others I have wasted my money on. I didn't need the dealership nor a locksmith to align my ignition key in the tumbler. I did it myself with just a turn of the ignition key.
We did not go to a locksmith. Put your ignition key in the lock and turn. The tumblers self align and you are done! My WIFE suggested this and it worked. The parts guy from the Dealership did not even know this. Its so simple.
Fits with no issues. Be prepared to have a lock smith key the lock for you.
Nice cap
This is just such a great item. It gives me peace of mind. I liked it so much I bought one for both my Jeeps. I have had cheap ones before, that you have to carry an extra key for, and they inevitably fail. Then you have to get them with no working lock, just a pain. Granted, these are both very new, but they work GREAT. WORTH THE MONEY !!
Easy to install.... pull the old one off, put new one on. Cost me $15 to get it keyed at the locksmith. Nice having it keyed the same as the JK, and the tether is also nice to have on the locking cap.
