Love the look and have matching front. Smity is pretty good at customer service. They are awful and wiring directions and sourcing steel. This will need maintenance when rust starts, an the tailgate will require little adjustment (once set) if you just need it closed. If you need it closed with minimal sound (no rattle), look elsewhere.

I am in process of replacing latch that failed and was told to buy another from their supplier. Waiting for it to come in. Never had a door latch fail....ever. Its a 2 part closure system, but so is every other door on a car.

Nice bumper... instruction are lacking Latch plate bolts are striped out The grease fitting broke the 1st time I tried to grease it.

Very nice bumper. But it needs to be tighten after 3 months. It also, it rattles a lot after every bump.

I love the bumper and also hate the bumper. Every time is snows I have a torch to get the latch open. The rotation cam gear will move on its own, causing me to have keep tools in the jeep to take the cap off and adjust it so my tire carrier will close. The came gear itself looks like over the last 2 years that it starting to bend not all the squares are square to adjust. I noticed the Cherokee version has a set screw so it can not rotate, they should have made a set screw option for the wrangler. Probably going to drill a hole and see if I can put threads in the bumper for a set screw. If the bumper had a screw like the older model Cherokee bumpers I think the bumper would be a lot better.

I have had to adjust the cam and lube it multiple times this summer alone. The latch has gotten more difficult over time despite adjustment. I am looking to replace this bumper and hope I can give to a metal worker for scrap.

For the price I thought it would be more stout. Once you mount a big 35” tire on the swing the whole gate rattles after every bump in the road. It rattles so much it keeps loosening the bolts that hold the bump on. I keep retightening them but the loosen again. Plus with the tire and fuel cans it puts so much weight on the swing that it says and won’t latch without picking it up as you slam it. I tried adjusting it but the next adjustment is too high, the one before is too low. Smittybuilt makes awesome front bumpers but this back one I wish I could get my money back. I gave 2 stars cause at least it looks cool sitting in the driveway.

I have had this on my 2014 now for a couple of years, The latch has gotten progressively harder to use no matter how much I try to adjust and lube. The fit was OK and like a few others have mentioned the directions could have been better.
I'm going to take this off and give to my son for his jeep and try to find a better one. This is my wife's daily driver and the latch is just too difficult for her to use. I would not recommend this product
