Reviews for Smittybilt Premium Replacement Canvas Soft Top with Tinted Windows for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler 2-Door
I have had this top on for a couple of weeks in order to give a fair review. It has been through one Texas rain storm, several highway trips, folded back and taken off several times, and one car wash.
I’ll begin by discussing the install. Total time to remove old top and completely finish installing the new one was 1:40. This was done by myself and I feel as though I could’ve saved an additional half hour with a second person. It was simple to put on, just time consuming. I utilized tape to hold the front part in place while I got it lined up when attaching to the fold back frame. The fit was very good and tight. It went onto the frame with no problem and everything lined up. With a second person it would’ve made this part a little easier. The top is a nice tight fit so someone holding it in place while the screws are inserted would make for a quicker install. You will need to score the fabric with a knife or box cutter where the screws go.
After installation I stepped back and was very impressed by the fit. Absolutely no sags or spots that seemed overly stretched like you see on some aftermarket tops. The zippers for the windows appear to be very sturdy and smooth. They glide very well and the second pull on the rear window zipper makes for easier install. I was not expecting the storage pockets on the front above the driver and passenger. If you leave your top on all the time they are probably useful, I fold mine back a lot so I haven’t put anything in them.
Driving is noticeably quieter than the OEM top. It is very stable and at highway speed there is absolutely no flapping. Again the fit is awesome. No leaking even in a driving Texas storm as well as one car wash. I’ve taken the top off several times and used the flip top both performed excellent. The tinted windows help to keep the sun out and heat down, remember I’m in Texas so that’s important. And they still provide a clear view out even at night.
Overall this has far exceeded expectations. My only recommendation is for the manufacturer to already place holes in the fabric to make for easier install of the screws. That is just being ridiculously petty because everything else about this top is great.
Have had the top 4 years and loved it. Really high quality canvas fabric -- similar to tops costing 50% more -- and VERY quiet (much more than the diamond sailcloth). Fabric still looks great.
Only issue is the quality of the window vinyl. It is a bit blurry when new (reason for 1 star hit). At about the 2 year point it also started hazing and by the 3 year point couldn't really see through it. I did try using the window rubbing compound -- didn't work. But, entire Smittybilt replacement rear window sections are available for ~$100 range. I can live with that.
Really good top. Easy install, my only concern is that the stitching on the outside of the top is starting to come undone. It’s only been on for six days and I took the top off one time. I hope that it is minor and will not spread further.
Top is great, windows suck! 2 years and had to replace all 3! Smittybilt didn't want to do a thing for me. I could not see out of any of them. tried 3 different polishing kits...... no good. Smittbilt says they are "etched", I say they feel like they melted and hazed over beyond repair!!!
