Reviews for Poison Spyder 17-63-010DBTP1 Brawler Mid Front Bumper with Brawler Bar, Tube Gussetts & D-Ring Tabs in SpyderShell Armor Coat for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Superb product and you just can't beat the SpyderShell Armor Coat....wish I had everything dipped with this coating.
Great looks and deer protection for the grill. I had it installed just 3 months before knocking down a deer that had jumped in front of me.
The bumper looks great installed. I was worried when it arrived as the box was pretty damaged from shipping and obviously retaped. Fortunately, all the hardware was in the box and the bumper sustained no damage. You will need patience removing the original bumper and installing the new one. You definitely need to have WD-40 handy if your bolts are rusted on like mine were. Also, you need an 18mm socket, not a 19mm as the directions state (2015 JK 2door Willys). You will also need a collection of extension bars, ratchet bars, bendable head ratchets, regular depth sockets, deep sockets, and a boatload of patience. The bolts behind the vac can require some problem solving and trial and error with different size extension bars and socket depths, but with some patience they all can be tightened. I am very happy with this product. I do wish it came with a Poison Spyder sticker that I can add to collection on the back glass.
Excellent Quality Products....
Reading through some of the other reviews I unfortunately had a similar experience with damage. First attempt, the bumper was delivered by UPS wrapped in bubble wrap with some cardboard taped around it. The armorshell was chipped and scratched all over, and the hardware was missing. This is not the fault of Quadratec or Poison Spyder...this is pure UPS and is usually my experience with UPS and anything over 40 lbs. I called Quadratec and they were great to work with, customer service rep asked for a picture of the damage, which I sent while on the call, he processed the RMA and had a tracking number on the replacement in under an hour. Because the box on the first one was totally gone they instructed me to place the damaged bumper in the replacements box and they would dispatch UPS to pick it up when ready. You can't ask for better service. Replacement bumper arrived in 3 business days, this time in its Poison Spyder box which was a quality box, packed securely in formed styrofoam with zero damage. PS does not skimp on packaging...what those jokers at UPS did to the first one the security cameras only know. Bumper is top quality, installed pretty easily and looks awesome. I looked at 1200 bumpers trying to make up my mind and finally went with the PS Mid and am happy I did. I'll add that you will need the fairlead mount with this kit, I opted for Poison Spyders mount for about $55.
Bumper is made in USA.
Do yourself a favor, add a u joint and 3 in extension to the tools needed. Also standard depth sockets in addition to the deep dish. These help behind the vac can.
Bumper: SOLID. Shipped well, no scratches in coating. Gr8 bolt pack was sealed and taped up in the box, bumper was wrapped in a heavy duty foam. Seriously PSC probably spent $25 on packing this thing. I think they learned from other reviewers that got a scratched up product. Quadratec description doesn't say anything about the vac can, just mentions frame rails. I can say that in my 2017 2d Willy's, I did not have to move the vac can. No alterations of any kind, although I may order the skid plate and chop out the crash bar. The vac can does make it hard to install the nuts on the driver side. It is doable to get all 8 on, don't listen to people who say it's okay to skip out on a nut or 2, they just give up too easy.
Winch: first time owning one so take that how you will. Seems to be a solid set up. One thing I don't like is the way the synthetic line is connected to the barrel. It looks like a piece of half inch conduit was pounded flat on the line, drilled through, and screwed into the side of the main housing. It isn't strong, mine broke and I reattached, with a piece of conduit pounded flat just like the original. It was my fault it broke, inexperienced with winching I wound out the whole barrel with tension on it. Glad I learned that lesson in the yard at home. I did get to hook up to a good sized tree and pulled the line in, tightening it on the barrel, which is something that should be done with a pre wound winch.
I mounted winch on the plate, and to the bumper and used a engine hoist to assist the install. I really think that with this bumper you can put the winch on after. If I did it over again, that's what I would do.
Love it! looks awesome and is solid for off-roading. Very easy install as well.
Quality well made product
Look amazing. A ton more durable than the stock plastic bumper.
Installation was easy with the help of someone to lift it on the jeep. The only thing I noticed wrong with the instructions was it said to use a 19mm deep socket to remove stock nuts that were on the bumper. It was actually an 18mm needed. I also added the mid width skid plate and I did remove the crash bar. That was probably the hardest part of it but with a little patience and a good blade on a sawzall it will go quick.
After agonizing over witch bumper to put on my JK..I went with the poison spyder mid width and I am extremely satisfied. The quality is top notch and looks great. Installation was a piece of cake. Took just under 2hrs from start to finish, by my self (and a little help from my top hoist) the two nuts behind the vacuum can were the toughest but with a little patience they came right off. Since my winch came later. I installed it with the bumper mounted and was fairly easy. Bottom line this bumper is a steller asset to any wrangler
