Reviews for Poison Spyder Hood Louver for 76-86 Jeep CJ-5, CJ-7 & CJ-8 Scrambler
Awesome product!!
Received package very quickly. Well packaged. Exactly what is advertised. Great finish. Everything lined up perfect and centered. Quite a bit of cutting, but well worth it.
Perfect fit. The enclosed template ensured the cut was flawless. The nylon screws are kinda cheaply made so don't use a pneumatic ratchet a full speed. I painted the product matte blsck - looks great. I gave it a 4 because of the included hardware. I ended up getting stainless washers, nuts and bolts.
The good,
1. It looks way cool once installed
2. The stainless steel hardware is nice!
3. The full-sized template is a real plus and really helped with install.
The bad,
1. It's way over priced! It's a piece of 20ga. steel stamped with louvers. It does come with stainless steel hardware.
2. The powder coat is thin and chipped off the edges easily. It's also not shiny, it's more of a mat, or semi-gloss finish.
2. I installed this on an original equipment AMC hood from an 83 CJ7. None of the holes lined up, not the windshield tie-down loop holes nor the windshield rest holes. I ended up abandoning trying to use the factory holes and lined it up as best I could with the lines of the hood. I then drilled new holes to match the ones in template. This hood was bare metal so there was no chance that the existing holes were added and the original holes welded at some point.
3. If you are installing this on a painted hood, be prepared to have it repainted. There is no way cut these large holes without heat damaging the surrounding paint. Even using something like a body saw. The "Touch-up paint" the instructions say is needed will not get you what you need, long term corrosion protection.
Overall I like the look (went on my rock crawler YJ to CJ conversion) but, in my opinion, is way over priced.
Poison Snyder is known for making extremely good, quality products (I have several of them) but this product is no where near the quality I would expect from them.
I looked for some time for some sort of "hood scoop" or something similar to cover some pretty bad dents in this factory hood. It looked like someone may have walked on it at some point and this item was really the only thing I could find that fit the bill. The only thing out there, really. I don't regret doing it, but I wish I had known these things before diving in. Glad I waited to paint before installing this.
Hope this helps someone else in my situation.
