Reviews for Crown Automotive 55397217AJ Spare Tire Bracket for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Very easy install to return to an OEM style tire carrier with attached 3rd brake light. Side by side with my other 2014 JK which has an OEM set-up; you cannot tell them apart..
Perfect fit for my Rubicon '08. Really easy to install.
Appears to be the same as OEM with the exception of the lower wheel mounting stud. The stud threads into the carrier with M12-1.75 threads instead of the OEM's 1/2"-13, that are slightly shorter. The strength will be fine, but if you have to remove the stud for a spacer, such as from Teraflex, you will need to buy M12 hardware for the lower stud to replace the 1/2". Otherwise, this piece went on perfectly, no fitting required.
Easy to install. Looks great. One small issue with the wiring. The harness is shorter than the original and is pulled tight (no slack).
Visually the same as the original. Different type of bolts and screws used, but not apparent. Only major difference is that the paint comes of easier than the original part.
As one reviewer above mentioned, the cable assembly for the 3rd brake light was too short by about 3/4" and I couldn't stretch it to fit. Pulled the cable from the original Mopar assembly, and that fit, but the light wouldn't come on when I braked, presumably something in the wiring was not compatible with the new unit. So, reinstalled original 3rd light and cable assemble with new spare tire bracket, and all's good. An otherwise easy install.
These plastic ones break over time. I've had 3 now with the 3rd light, and each time they've broken! Factory one broke, so I replaced it with one purchased from 4 Wheel Parts store, and it broke. Now a 3rd one has broken by cracking. Too much stress because of the weight of the tire and rim on the door. Constant closing of door and general bumpiness of ride seem to deteriorate the plastic over time.
