Upgraded from JK AEV Pintler wheels after some wet rock crawling rashed them all up - lots of character. Wanted the flexibility of Beadlocks in future and a ring to protect the outer surface that could be replaced after some damage if needed. I have been really happy with AEV products I have so stayed with them for their quality. The wheels are HEAVY with rings installed. Much more robust than the Pintlers - not sure I could get the spare tire on the rear without help with 35" KO2s.... The rings sit pretty far outward and bolts are almost flush with the tire. I placed a level across the tire and measured from that plane to see how close the first contact point with a rock or any other obstacle would be at 30PSI and tires not caring the weight of the vehicle so these numbers would increase when on vehicle and again when aired down. K02 tire to Pintler rim 1.1875in, K02 tire to Borah Protective ring face 0.625in and K02 tire to Bolts 0.375in. I like the Protector ring idea, but expect the bolts to be making contact quite a bit and sooner than I have experienced in the past. I'll have to update after they get truly trail tested on what actually happens.

I mounted the rings at the tire shop after tires set and before balancing and glad I brought 2 batteries for my cordless drill and a torque wrench.

The AEV Borah wheel is a very serious wheel. Don't buy these if you are looking for light wheels. With the beadlock ring and bolts they weigh 42lbs each. They are very stable and stout. I have not tried them yet on the trail so I am only speaking from road use. So far they are excellentl. I put these wheels together in my garage with hand tools and followed AEV's instructions very carefully. I took them to a local tire store and they balanced the wheels easilyt. These wheels are a significant upgrade from my AEV Pintlers.
