The D.U.I. distributor eliminates the ballast resistor that is used on the stock AMC ignition system to allow full alternator voltage through the ignition system, allowing better spark and more power. Each D.U.I. Distributor is curved on a distributor machine based on the specs of the engine. A super smooth advance curve eliminates potential engine-damaging detonation and gives instant throttle response.
- Performance Distributors now offers the D.U.I. (Davis Unified Ignition) for AMC applications. The AMC D.U.I. is a one-piece ignition system with the coil in the distributor cap and the module inside the distributor. The D.U.I. Coil produces 50,000 volts and allows spark plug gaps to be opened up to .050" - .055". The Performance Distributors Dyna-Module has more electronic dwell time in it to give the coil more saturation time and produce a hotter spark. The D.U.I. distributor eliminates the ballast resistor that is used on the stock AMC ignition system. This will allow full alternator voltage through the ignition system and will provide a better spark and more power. Each D.U.I. The unit is polished and lubed as it is assembled making it a true blueprinted distributor. The AMC D.U.I. is a real work of craftsmanship and although it is uniquely designed, replacement parts are easy to find. High Energy Ignition (H.E.I.) replacement parts will fit right on the D.U.I. These parts can be found at any local auto parts store.AMC DUI Distributor Features

Performance Distributors DUI Distributor Reviews
This has brought new life to my '81 Scrambler. Once I got it installed and fixed my fuel issue, this distributor made tuning the Jeep super easy. She fires up every time and if I don't stall it out, stays running as long as I've got gas in her. This is going to end up being a go to upgrade to any older Jeep I own. Awesome product.
1980 jeep cj7 258. I purchased this versus the cheaper one's you can find based on reviews and definitely not disappointed! It idles and runs smooth not missing anymore. and the exhaust definitely smells like its burning a lot cleaner now! Installation went easy as there are some good videos on you tube for installation on an AMC 258.
Jeep runs better than new. Much more power and response.
Questions

Installing a Performance Distributors AMC 6 Cylinder DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) HEI Distributor allows you to completely eliminate both the factory Motorola Ignition Control Module (ICM)—which is typically mounted under the dash (or on the driver's side inner fender, depending on the exact year and model of your CJ or YJ)—and the computerized Microprocessor Control Unit (MCU) emissions computer.
How it works:
True "One-Wire" Hookup: The DUI distributor is an all-in-one HEI-style system. The high-voltage coil (50,000 volts) and the ignition module (Dyna-Module) are both housed directly inside the distributor cap itself.
Complete System Bypass: To run the DUI, you completely bypass all of the factory ignition wiring. You only need to run a single, switched 12V power wire (typically a minimum 12-gauge wire) directly from your ignition switch to the "BAT" terminal on the DUI distributor cap.
Mechanical & Vacuum Advance: Because the DUI features its own self-contained, custom-tuned mechanical (centrifugal) and vacuum advance systems, you no longer rely on the sluggish, computer-controlled timing advance managed by the under-dash MCU.
A Quick Warning on Carburetion:If you are running this on an '82–'90 Jeep (which originally used the computer-controlled feedback system), simply swapping the distributor will bypass the ignition side of the MCU, but you will still have the factory Carter BBD feedback carburetor.
Because the computer will no longer be adjusting the carb's mixture via the stepper motor on the back, the Jeep will run poorly unless you do one of the following:
Lock the stepper motor needles in their mid-rich position (often referred to as part of the "Nutter Bypass" procedure).
Upgrade to a non-feedback carburetor (such as a Weber 32/36 or a Motorcraft 2100), which allows you to completely strip out all remaining computer-controlled emissions wiring, solenoids, and vacuum lines for an incredibly clean engine bay.
