TACTIK 7.5" LED Light Bar Reviews
Great durable light with good wiring harness
Fits Paramount bumper from Quadratec.
First thing I will say is that this works. I got this as a Christmas gift from my brother and was worried that from the price tag it would be a cheaply made China bar. It's not. It's well made and everything works perfectly as it should.
Saying that, this is a very small light bar and it doesn't put out a massive amount of light. Keep that in mind. I wanted this to throw light down on the trail right in front of me and it does the job. Combined with the headlights, I'm lighting up the tight Pennsylvania trails pretty well.
This is a well put together light, but not as bright as I hoped. Saying that, it gets the job done, and I'd buy it again if this is what I knew I'd be using it for. It does its job great.
Questions

Here's why:
Current Draw: The TACTIK JT-2600C-36W is a 36-watt LED light bar. At 12V, this translates to a current draw of 3 amps. While 3 amps might seem low, many vehicle cigarette lighter sockets and their associated wiring are often rated for a lower continuous current draw, typically around 1-2 amps, and sometimes up to 5-10 amps for short durations. Exceeding this rating can lead to:
Overheating: The wiring in the cigarette lighter circuit might not be thick enough to handle 3 amps continuously, causing it to overheat, melt insulation, and potentially start a fire.
Fuse Blowing: The fuse protecting the cigarette lighter socket is likely rated lower than 3 amps and will repeatedly blow, rendering the light bar unusable.
Damage to the Socket: Continuously drawing more current than the socket is designed for can damage the socket itself.
Voltage Drop: The thin wiring often used for cigarette lighter circuits can experience a significant voltage drop when supplying 3 amps, leading to reduced brightness and performance of the LED light bar.
Reliability: Cigarette lighter connections are not designed for the secure and continuous power supply needed for accessories like light bars. They can be easily dislodged, leading to intermittent power or the light turning off unexpectedly.
Safety: Directly connecting a relatively high-power device to a circuit not intended for it bypasses the safety measures designed for higher-current accessories, such as properly sized wiring and fuses directly connected to the battery.
Instead of modifying the harness for a cigarette lighter plug, the intended and safest way to power this LED light bar is by connecting it directly to the vehicle's battery using the provided wiring harness. This harness is designed with the appropriate wire gauge and likely includes a fuse and switch to safely power the light bar.
If you need a temporary or portable lighting solution, consider purchasing a smaller, lower-wattage LED light specifically designed to be powered by a cigarette lighter socket. These typically draw much less current and are safer to use with that type of connection.
In summary, do not attempt to power the TACTIK JT-2600C-36W LED light bar using a cigarette lighter plug. Connect it directly to the battery as intended for safe and reliable operation.
