The Alloy USA® Differential Cable Lock Kit is a permanent replacement for the failure prone OE vacuum disconnects system on early model Wranglers and Cherokees. The kit allows you to engage and lock the front axle from inside the cab. A 1inch pull of the cable ensures you will have four wheel-drive when you need it for as long as the transfer case is engaged. The Differential Cable Lock Kit is more cost effective and easier to install than a locker or posi-trac system. Backed by a limited five year warranty.

Much better than the stock vacuum system. I would go with the standard length cable though, my jeep has a 3.5 inch lift and the cable was almost too long but I made it fit. The wires on the sensor were poorly soldered and came loose, but I just crimped some sleeve terminals on them and plugged them in that way.

2' too long. Cab smells like GL now. Not sure it clears oil pan... otherwise,fit great,easy to install,straight forward

my cable has come apart from the aluminum threaded part that slides into the body. is that ok? also after i got this installed i still have no 4 wd . does the 4x4 stick shift need to be engaged for 4x4 use? i thought this was the alternative to using that shifter ??
No, it is not okay for the cable to come apart from the aluminum threaded housing. That housing is a critical structural mount; if it separates, the cable cannot pull or push the internal fork accurately to engage the axle collar.
To answer your second question: Yes, the 4x4 floor shifter still needs to be engaged.
The Alloy USA cable lock replaces the failure-prone vacuum actuator on the front axle, allowing you to manually lock the passenger-side axle shaft. However, it does not replace the transfer case shifter. You must pull your 4x4 interior floor shifter into 4Hi or 4Lo to send power from the transmission to the front driveshaft, and then use the cable lock to lock the front axle disconnect so the wheels actually receive that power.
