Borgeson Heavy Duty Replacement Steering Shaft Reviews
Worked great on my 74 CJ5
Questions

The fitment depends on the input shaft spline count and diameter. Here is the breakdown of why they are compatible:
1. The Specs Match
Borgeson 000904 Lower Joint: This shaft is specifically designed with a 13/16"–36 spline lower universal joint.
Redhead/Saginaw Power Gear Box: The standard power steering gearbox for 1972–1975 CJs (the Saginaw 800 series) uses a 13/16" diameter input shaft with 36 splines. Redhead builds their boxes to these factory specifications unless you specifically requested a custom configuration (like a later-model metric swap).
2. Physical Dimensions
Length: The 000904 is a telescopic shaft with a collapsed length of 33.5" and an extended length of 39.5". This range is designed to accommodate the frame-to-body flex common in early CJs, which often causes the factory "bell" coupling to fail or bind.
Column Side: The upper joint on the 000904 is a 3/4"–36 spline, which matches the factory steering column found in '72–'75 Jeeps.
