Questions

Will this cable work on a rubicon with a 2.5” lift or do I need to get a custom length cable?

Yes, the Crown Automotive 52060204AF Emergency Brake Cable will generally work with a 2.5-inch suspension lift on an unlimited JK, but it is right on the edge of its operational limit at full droop.
Here is what you need to consider for your setup:
Factory Length & 2.5” Lift: A 2.5-inch lift introduces a moderate amount of extra downward suspension travel (droop). While many Jeep owners run factory-length emergency brake cables with a 2.5-inch lift without immediate failure, the cable will be pulled quite taut when the rear axle is fully dropped (such as when flexing off-road or on a lift).
Potential Restrictions: At full articulation, a stock-length cable can act as a minor limiting strap or place extra tension on the cable housing and equalizer mechanism.
Recommendation: If you do a lot of off-roading with heavy articulation, or if you want to avoid premature wear on the cable and brackets, adding a simple e-brake cable drop bracket or opting for a slightly extended-length cable is often recommended for peace of mind. However, if your Jeep is primarily a daily driver or sees mild trail use, the factory-length Crown Automotive Emergency Brake Cable will typically reach and function fine with a 2.5-inch lift.
