My experience is exactly the same as Ray-Dean C. The parts store gasket is larger and actually kinks. I dropped the fuel tank out of my Jeep Comanche to clean it and I can see that this gasket fits perfectly. It is slighty smaller than the one supplied with the new pump.

Replaced the sending unit in a 91 XJ with one from the local parts store. the supplied o-ring didn't seal correctly and you couldn't fill it beyond 3/4 full. swapped this o-ring in and it hasn't leaked a drop of fuel since. With the price of gas and a teenage driver, I'm very pleased.
