It does not matter whether the Jeep has a soft top or hardtop, but it does require that you install a roof rack that is comppatible with a roof top tent.

The tent weighs 154 lbs and the smittybilt rack(shown in picture) can handle 300 lbs. I believe the tent is a 2 person so you only have 146 lbs for 2 people. Is smittybilt underrating their racks.
Hello, the 300lb rating is the dynamic weight. The rack can hold 300lbs while the vehicle is in motion. When the Jeep is parked, the rack can handle much more weight. This means you can safely sleep 2 people in the tent. Thank you for your question.
