Reviews for DV8 Offroad RBJL-01 Full Length Rear Bumper with LED Lights for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL
Very nice bumper, was able to fit my 35’s on stock carrier without problem, was a complete system with lights and license plate bracket, included stand off pots to lower the tow package light connections to clear bumper, instructions on site not bad, had to figure out the tow connection which was easy.
This has been a struggle. My Jeep has been in my carport for two weeks now with an undressed rear bumper (no sexy talk here). As previously mentioned, instructions suck and I’m learning more about wiring than I thought, as well.
1- my bumper came in a poorly packed cardboard box. The mid portion was nicely big peanut packed but there was no packing on the edges. The delivery service from after leaving the warehouse does not care. My “precious” cargo was damaged. Dv8 response team did a positive and sent me a huge spray bottle for touch up. I did give them the direct feedback that they could have packaged this better but I do appreciate the free bottle (some of this review is premature, I haven’t used it yet to verify the match).
2- as noted from others, the sensors are attached to the bumpers via a little house casing that is partially melted to a the plastic bumper cover ( I can’t speak for the OWM steel bumpers). Jeep does not sell these since they are considered part of the plastic bumper. You can chisel these off or buy each one individually from quadretech (~$5 each x4). Your time vs your dollar?!
3- wiring- It’s a pain in the ass but I did something different than the others with the harness. The harness length between the 2nd and 3rd sensor is not long enough for the bumper and the license’s plate light wiring doesn’t reach the newly positioned plate as well. Instead of cutting the wire and adding new wire, JUST unravel the electrical tape in the needed areas! You will find the distance! Unravel out the second sensor and the license plate wires.
4- more wiring- I’m stuck on the back light wiring. I sent an email to DV8 for their recs to add into the current reverse white lights. Their should have been a wiring adaptive system with this bumper. Completely worth a -1 star alone for this.
Decent website to have video instruction of rear plastic bumper removal (by fishbone, I might by their front bumper soon).

Need to have Epoxy glue handy ($5). Also need a clip removal instrument for bumper removal ($8, looks like a double headed flat screw driver). Have a full set of tools needed. (Ratchet set with extensor AND an articulating angle adapter … the 16 mm bolts holding the bumper were not easy to reach without it; 2 runs to Ace/Lowe’s so far). Also get a heat gun (~$25) with heat waterproof seal solder connectors ($12 Amazon for 150 pieces TIconn). Buy quality electrical tape.
Solid bumper, and looks nice on my Jeep. However it came with ZERO instructions. The printed instructions weren't great either. One of my main complaints is it comes with two lights, but absolutely no way to install them unless you go buy wires to run. I had to purchase wire to complete the install, and as mentioned in other reviews it had chips around the shackle mounts when I received it.
I bought this bumper for a 2018 JL Rubicon to replace a factory plastic bumper with backup sensors. It is a super nice bumper and has a much improved departure angle. With the license plate relocation bracket you can leave your plate on when you are wheeling.
The reason for the 3 star rating is primarily because the instructions are shamefully awful. If you don’t have backup sensors, it is a very straight forward install. If you have the OEM plastic bumper with sensors, get ready for a wiring project.
What they don’t tell you is that once you remove the OEM bumper, you will have to completely disassemble it in order to cleanly remove the sensors and the wiring loom. You need to remove (20+) 8mm hex screws and many plastic fasteners.
After you CAREFULLY pry the sensors off of your OEM bumper you will quickly notice that the wiring loom is too short to span the middle sensors on the new bumper. You will need to cut and splice (6)18-gauge wires to add about 12-14 inches to the middle of the factory harness. I used JB Weld to adhere the sensors to the new bumper which worked nicely.
You will also need to combine and extend the two rear LED lights and tap into your reverse light wire. I tapped into my driver side fixture also all of my wiring was heading in the same direction. The lights are excellent and make a big impact while backing. You will also be snipping your factory license plate wires and extending those to the new bracket.
If you aren’t experienced and super comfortable around 12V wiring, maybe leave this install to your local shop. It is a great looking bumper and I am very happy with it, just wish the fitment notes and documentation was better. With all of the unknowns, it ended up being about a 6 hour install.
First off there are no instructions so that was frustrating to try to piece things together with no guidance. Second if you have the rear parking sensors be ready for a more in depth project as if you have a plastic bumper you need to rip off the mounts and Epoxy them onto the DV8 bumper and if you have the steel bumper you can reuse the mounts that are on there as they are reusable? You also need to cut and splice in a section of wire to lenghten the harness as they are further spaced out in the middle with this bumper. I lengthened the second sensor in from the left to remedy this. Again no instructions so that was fun. Finally i have gone out once and already have the coating flaking off at the bolt points where it is mounted to the frame, i never made ANY contact with trees or rocks while out this is just from being jossled around!
All in all its ok at best but far too expensive for the lack of quality and all of the DIY stuff needed to make it work. Certainly not a plug and play rear bumper and i would have gone with something different had i known this was going to be a bigger project than anticipated. Well see how it holds up and see if i end up hating myself and going with LOD or Poison Spyder next.
DV8 Rear bumper less than a year old and the top coat flaking off. Sturdy bumper otherwise.
