Reviews for Bestop Core Doors for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 2-Door
They are lighter than the stock doors, and I can remove them by myself.
Love them! Very easy to install once the old doors were off. Corroded bushings made that a bit difficult. The only thing I don't love is the difficult location of some of the thumb levers that hold in the center panel. They are difficult to turn.
The doors themselves are solid, fit great, work great, but theres some stuff you should know. FIRST- I ordered these with the high rock mirrors. Was bummed to get the boxes and start assembling to realize that per the door instructions a mirror adapter is needed for mounting. Essentially it is a solid piece to go between outside door shell and interior plastic trim. I had some 2" and 3/4" inch wood scraps kicking around so I made some out of wood and was good to go. (2 3/4" is the size of the spacer you need). Just got notification from quadratec that a mirror mount kit was going to be shipped. This was automatic because I didn't solicit a kit. Im guessing that bestop realized that those should be included so thats a good thing. SECOND- I had originally ordered the upper and lower bundle. It was backordered for sometime but the lowers were in-stock. I cancelled my order and ordered the Mopar uppers, it was only a $20 difference. I have never had half doors or soft uppers before, I had a little trouble getting the round center peg on the bottom of the mopar upper to align and slide into the door. Eventually I found a technique that worked, but after taking the uppers off and putting them on a few times, the driver side round peg snapped off of my upper. Still works, just a little more wobbly when the door is open. I had thought theses would be a weather tight solution, due to uneven compression of the upper gaskets I could still see daylight through the top gasket by the handle side of the door (both doors). Perhaps this will improve as the gasket wears in. I wouldn't call it a deal breaker, I was out riding around in a torrential downpour and nothing was really coming in, but it wasn't 100% weather tight. Given the lack of upper seal tightness theres a 10/10 chance I will be putting my regular doors back on in the fall. Not sure if the bestop uppers seal better or not. -G
I'm very happy with these doors. Easy as removing the factory doors and dropping these on. They fit perfectly with no adjustments needed. I also purchased the Bestop HighRock mirrors to go with them and they fit well too. I did call Bestop directly about the mirror mount kit and they quickly resolved the matter. Excellent service from Quadratec and Bestop!
Never received the doors after waiting 5 months. Had to buy from Amazon and received them in 3 days. I'll review them anyway since it's not Quadratec's fault:
1) The doors are much higher quality then i expected them to be.
2) Annoyance: There are three "pins" that slide into the door bottom in order to mount the top of the door. The left and right edge pins function just fine, but there is a smaller one in the middle that is misaligned form the factory. It is quite annoying actually and is difficult to put the top of the door on properly - you have to literally punch it with your fist in order to get it to go in the hole while also pushing down on the top of the door to seat it. *This does get better over time as the doors wear a bit* What I am going to do is just slightly drill-out the receiving hole on the door bottom so the pin freely enters the hole without forcing it. Believe me, when you receive these doors you will understand exactly what the problem is.
3) Annoyance: The bottom "panel" which comes off to reveal your legs and open air has a terrible mechanism to secure themselves. They are half wing nuts that need to be rotated into position to hold the panel into place and there are probably 6 nuts that need to be secured. These are virtually impossible for someone to use without pliers, or VERY strong fingers. My wife simply is unable to secure these back in place. Period. The nuts are just too small and require too much force to secure the panel in place, they should be MUCH larger to gain leverage because you are applying force to these across a weather seal which needs to "bite" in order to keep water out. Which brings me to...
4) These leak like crazy. Despite plenty of weatherstripping, the doors will let water in. It just is what it is. We knew that going-in - we dont run carpet and sprayed rust-olem bedliner on the floor pans and leave the plugs out to drain. It's a jeep, that's what it's for. BUT, just know if you run carpet, you are going to have a mold/mildew problem most likely.
5) These are just great doors though, I'm happy we purchased them. I can't really expect much better for what they are. We have a 2dr JK and just being able to have COMPLETE doors with you AT ALL TIMES is a HUGE benefit. That is the only reason we bought these here in South FLorida where it WILL rain daily. I am not exaggerating this: I can literally put BOTH of the tops on the doors in less than 1 min at this point. They store just fine in the back, vertically. I open the swing door, grab one and it goes on in no more than 10 seconds from the time its in my hands to the time the entire door is closed. It really goes that fast which is GREAT when you get caught in the rain...it can be easily done even at a stoplight with one person.
LOVE these doors - the only reason it's not 5/5 is the lower panel/seal issue and the top door middle "pin". That is such an easy thing to fix in manufacturing, I wish they would. Literally making the receiving hole 1/16" larger fixes the entire issue. The the bottom panel issue, i am simply going to replace the stock "half" wing nuts with larger ones from a hardware store so we can get more finger/twist leverage on them. Then these will be as perfect as a lightweight and portable two-piece door could be, really.
No issues driving on the highway whatsoever, they're much quieter than we expected and dont bow-out or anything. It's pretty impressive, truly. These are a lot of fun.
I just installed the uppers and lowers on my 09 JK. The lowers installed very easily but the uppers took some work to get a proper fitment. Haven't been out in the rain yet to see how well they work in the elements.
I would like to see the door pins be longer- even though I replaced the door bushings the door pins pop out at times when I remove the uppers. Maybe that will cease as the uppers get worn in. I will always be cautious to lock the doors as well as they would be a breeze to steal since they lift out so easily.
That being said I can't wait for the good weather to open things up fully.
I really like these doors. They look great and function as expected. The doors seem really durable but I will give an update if there are any problems after putting some time on the trails. So why four stars? First price and second I ordered these with Bestop mirrors only to find out a special adapter, sold separately and not listed on any website, is needed for the mirror install. Quadratec customer service was unaware of this nor did they offer any solution. Anyway I am happy with the doors now for the lift.
Disappointing, the upper have a center peg that did not line up with the lower. That had to be cut off in order for them to fit together. The fit on the jeep is okay but you need to really slam the door for it it latch. The seal on the core is not the best and water seeps into the Jeep. This seems to be due to the design, the water will collect in the lower at the bottom of the removable panel and leak through the gasket. I would have expected Bestop to have quality control that would makes sure the upper and lowers would fit together.
I love the look and idea of these doors, but they will leak when it rains. Gasket around removable panel does not keep out water. Water seeps in and drips along lower lip of door and when it fills up will drain over into footwell. I was working with Bestop and the result was them saying these doors are modular so there will be some leaking. Really? Also the upper and lower don’t really meet up correctly and lots of water leaks in during rain. I’ve come up with some work arounds but for the money, expected a more finished fit. One last thing is the removable panel takes more than a few seconds to reinstall. Still working with bestop so I will update if I get an acceptable resolution.
Great idea, Bad design!
So far after only a few short weeks I've noticed, 1.) When it rains, the inner panel let's water in due to the poor design and also I get a puddle on the passenger side floor. 2.) ALL 8 bolts that attach the hinge pins (what hold the door on the jeep) to the core doors are starting to rust!! For $1600 I expected way better quality.
