Reviews for Alpine ILX-W650 with Alpine KTA-450 Power Duo
For the price everything
Features I am looking for
Ok here's what you need to know. 5-stars for the product, 2 stars for Quadratech tech support. I ordered this head unit with the amp, Alpine speakers for all 4 locations and some other stuff for the JK. I wanted to make sure I can knock out the installation at one time with no setbacks so I called tech support. Hold times were insane, I think I was on hold for close to an hour. I asked if the Sirius antenna adapter to the right side on this page under the "customers also bought.." part worked for this setup, he said it did. It does not. You'll need the Sirius SXV300 adapter to run Sirius with this system if your Jeep already comes with Sirius and you have a built-in antenna. If it doesn't have the antenna, you'll need to order a SXV300AZV1. So I now need to order this part form Amazon and tear the dash back apart when it gets here, exactly what I was trying to avoid with the phone call.
The wiring harness comes pre-wired so you'll end up with a spare wiring harness for the Alpine deck. The problem is, THIS combo comes with the Alpine amp as well so the harness will have to be cut and rewired. The speaker outputs from the deck are wired directly to the Jeep harness which isn't how it's supposed to work if there's an amp involved. The amp speaker output wires have to be need to be wired into the Jeep harness instead.
You'll have to run a 12G-ish battery wire to the battery including an inline fuse which are not included. So for a clean install, you'll need about 20ft. of wire, the inline fuse with a blade fuse holder (25A or so fuse outta work), a few ring adapters for power and ground, crimp caps, and wire loom. I used to install car stereos back in the day so I'm pretty well versed at work like this. If I didn't have this experience, there's NO WAY I would have been able to put this off. It's nowhere near as simple as they make it sound and it's absolutely NOT plug-and-play.
Ironically, the backup camera part was a smooth install and I had to hitches there.
On a side note, I ordered some rollbar speakers as well that didn't look like they'd fit the Jk even though the fitment section said they'd work in any JL or JK. Since the 2 Jeeps have different speaker enclosures, I also asked tech support about this. They said they would not work and that there was a misprint on the website and he would remove them from the order so I wouldn't get billed for them. Well they showed up and I got billed for them anyway. Now it's on me to return them and wait for a $500 refund.
In conclusion, don't waste your time on Quadratech tech support, do your own homework instead, Youtube is way more helpful and accurate.
I purchased the wiring and mounting kit but the mounts were just far enough off that I would have had to Dremel the plastic in order to make it fit. Also, the wiring kit had ZERO instructions on how to hook up the KTA-450 amp to the head unit. I decided to exchange the entire order. Disappointing but I might consider getting just the head unit if I can find a descent mounting kit.
Zero instruction
KTA-450 Power Duo doesn't fit with the subwoofer of the RUBICON
