is the control module a brake control module? It is only a 4 pin connector so usually you don't need a brake control module. What is the module for? thanks

No, the control module included in the 4-pin harness is not a trailer brake control module (which wouldn't be needed for a standard 4-way flat plug anyway, since 4-pin setups only handle running lights, left/right turn signals, and standard stop/brake signals without electric trailer brakes).
Instead, that module is a powered tail light converter / isolation module (often called a "modu-lite" or powered converter box).
What the Module Is For:
Isolates the Trailer from the Jeep’s Computers: Modern vehicles like the Wrangler JL use sophisticated CAN-bus electrical systems and body control modules (BCMs) that monitor current draw. If you splice or tap directly into modern factory tail lights without an isolated module, the Jeep's computer can throw error codes, cause hyper-flashing, or shut down the lighting circuit entirely due to unexpected electrical draw.
Draws Power Directly from the Battery: The module typically runs a dedicated power wire up to the vehicle's battery. It uses the Jeep's tail light signals merely as low-current trigger inputs, while drawing the actual electrical power to illuminate the trailer lights straight from the battery. This protects your Wrangler's sensitive factory electronics from overloads, shorts, or feedback spikes coming from the trailer.

I have a 2026 Wrangler JL which I believe has an incandescent bulb system. My boat trailer has LED lights. Will this harness operate the LED lights on the trailer even though the bulbs on the Jeep are incandescent?

Yes, the Quadratec Plug & Play Tow Hitch Wiring Harness will operate the LED lights on your boat trailer without any issues, even though your Wrangler JL's tail lights use incandescent bulbs.
Independent Power & Signals: The wiring harness simply taps into your Jeep's factory tail light signals (running, brake, and turn signals) to send the correct electrical pulses through the 4-way flat connector.
LED Compatibility: Trailer LED lights draw significantly less current than incandescent bulbs and operate perfectly fine off standard 12V vehicle trailer harnesses. Your Jeep's incandescent bulb system will not interfere with or restrict the trailer's LED functionality.

My boat trailer has LED lights, but my 2026 jeep has incandescent bulbs. Will this harness operate the LED lights on my trailer?

Yes, the Quadratec Plug & Play Tow Hitch Wiring Harness will seamlessly operate the LED lights on your boat trailer despite your Jeep's incandescent bulb setup.
Plug-and-play design taps directly into your factory tail light connectors without splicing.
Independent circuit signals provide the correct 12V pulses to the 4-way flat connector, handling lower-draw LED trailer lights reliably.

Can I adapt this harness to run ground effects lights or do you have one for the application 2021 jeep wrangler JL

This is specific for the how hitch wiring harness. This would be the wiring harness we'd recommend for running ground effects if the wiring harness is not included with the light kit: Quadratec 2 Circuit Auxiliary Light Harness for Small Pair Pack & 10" LED Light Bars
