Reviews for Z Automotive Z-TZR-JLL Tazer JL Lite Programmer 18-25 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
Good Prices, Great Products
The instructions are terrible as some have mentioned. However, installation is also horrible unless you are a contortionist, have hands the size of a child, aren't farsighted and can see in low light. The Quadratec video on this should have said that to have any chance at installation, you have to take off the front panel under the steering wheel. BE AWARE that Z Automotive sells an extender wire that will allow plugging and unplugging of the device to be in easy, reachable view. GET IT!
Review the Quadratec video or go to the Z Automotive website (instructions) before attempting to use this. There are no instructions included with this kit and it clearly is printed in the packaging to refer to the website for instructions (on the website, navigating to where instructions are is not straightforward), I took away a star for that. Having a two and three-plus dollar versions, I expect instructions. No stickers (which I don't do anyway) with this product. It came on time and without damage to the packaging. I found the EVIC slow to change screens but worked with this unit. I purchased a "Lite" version and at the moment only required to change my tire size. I was allegedly able to reprogram my Jeep and a slight transmission feel (shift) at ultra low speeds, or maybe I am more conscious of it can be felt. For anyone considering buying expect to have a little challenge reaching the plug in point (two male end plugs) as it is wedged high and up under steering wheel facias. I ended up having to remove the facias (only clipped in place) to access the point. I did not have to make any updates online to my Tazer which was a plus for me. I recommend this product with a few aforementioned notes.
The product works OK. The biggest reason for the 2 stars is the HORRIBLE customer service. I have sent out quesions on issues I have been having and very limited responses, most have been ignored and many days went by before I got a response. My advice is find another product.
I am very disappointed in the Tazer JL Mini. A week or so after installing the Tazer, and following all of the instructions, my jeep's battery started dying. I took the Tazer out, made sure that the computer updates were up to date, reinstalled it, married it, full rebooted with 2 sleep cycles, and my battery still kept dying. (I did this so many times.) After numerous jump starts, my battery was shot, so I removed the Tazer, and bought a new battery. I drove around for a couple of months without my battery dying and decided to reinstalled the Tazer. Unfortunately within a few days my battery was dead AGAIN. I have submitted an email for tech support to Z Automotive (I can't find a phone number) and will update this post with what happens.
I had high hopes for the Tazer JL, as it gets a lot of love on youtube channels like Litebrite and others. I ordered it to turn on the 'Trailer Tow' mode after installing the Mopar wiring harness on my 2018 JLU Sahara. I followed the wiring harness instructions to the letter, and have had success with complex wiring projects in the past. After getting through the menu to activate that feature in "Lighting", there was no effect. The hitch wiring harness does not activate trailer lights at all. I could chock that up to having made a mistake on the wiring install, however, even ignoring that, I would still give the Tazer JL a low rating. After I used it, my Jeep's electronics are sketchy. I have an automatic, but now sometimes when I get in to start it up, the EVIC menu displays "Depress Clutch and Brake and press button to start". Also, last weekend I returned home and had been listening to the stereo through blue tooth. After turning the Jeep off and going to the back to unload some items, the stereo came on and started playing via bluetooth from my phone. The Jeep was in the 'Off" position and the 7" display was off. Very odd. Expensive and did not work for me.
This programer does NOT work with the 4xe regardless of what your are told. I purchased and ran through the sequence dozens of times over two days of litterally trying option that I may have missed. I read all the instructions to include trying to contact Z automotive, you can only text them and they don't respond well if at all. Poor customer service, the product instructions are poor at best and customer service is horrible. Im stuck with 3K of new gears that I validated firstly with Z automotive if it was compatible, they said yes and now I have to find an option as I have a very expensive Jeep that doesn't work. THIS DOESN'T WORK ON THE 4XE.
