Reviews for Carnivore Winch Mounting Plate for 18-26 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
What seemed to be a good price and great alternative to the factory part ended up being a serious pain. The holes that mount the winch plate didn't mount up by a significant distance.... of course this only discovered after everything is removed. I had to buy a file and grind out the holes on both sides to get it to fit. The picture shows about 1/2 of how much I had to grind out by hand on one of the tabs. Next time I'll pay more for the factory part and skip the headache.
I purchased this based on all the good reviews and on QT quality. Boy was I wrong, first as many have stated the instructions were poorly written and steps were obviously left out. The most important thing was the design and layout of this mount was so poorly executed that a one star is too much to rate this. Example: 1/3 of the bolt holes didn't line up, (required quite a bit of grinding), but the most glaring issue was the two lower lips/tabs that sit in the lower front of the back mounting holes (one on each of the inside frame rails) leaves no space to install the lower inside bumper mounting nuts once the plate was properly installed. (let alone how to get a socket on the nut to torque it down to the proper specs with the tab in the way) I finally figured out a way to get the bumper mounted and torqued at the expense of losing a couple of tools in the process. THEN I had to figure out a way to torque down the Winch with limited access. This was completely backwards in the install process. I wasted about 9-10 hours by grinding and adjusting the mount to get it to work. I was an ASE Certified mechanic years ago so I know my way around a vehicle. This is totally unacceptable by any standards. I have read where some didn't have this problem, so I might have just received a defective product. It was out of stock so I couldn't even get a replacement if I wanted to explore this option.
This did not fit my Gladiator Mojave. The pieces that replace tow hooks did not fit. I tried grinding them and finally gave up. 2 of the 8 holes to mount the winch plate was not even close to lining up. Instead of re drilling the holes just added it to my steel recycle pile. Bought a new bumper instead.
