Reviews for American Outlaw BLK002072 Black Mirrors for 76-18 Jeep CJ and Wrangler
I bought these due to having my door repaired and not wanting to leave my vehicle and rent one. Mirrors went on perfectly, but had slight issue with set screw. Had to file down Teflon to have it secure. Forced city driving there is no vibration. Highway speeds of 60 mph incurred slight vibration, but not enough to warrant any concerns. Adjustment was easy to without messing with tension screws. I had them on for three days now and love them. Great field of view.
Good product
Great mirrors! Had them on my ‘04 TJ and never had a major issue with them. They do vibrate, but it’s better than not having anything. My only gripe was the nylon insert in the adjustment screw does get flat, but you can get replacements from the company.
I have this mirrors and really like them. Guys with adjustment issue...a little advice Loosen the screws that hold tension on the ball the mirrors use for adjustment. Easier if you have a buddy gently move the mirrors in place while you are sitting behind the wheel then tighten the screws back to hold mirrors in place.
I bought these mirrors a long time ago (7-8 years ago) because they offered the clean look I wanted and easily taken on and off. I was surprised to see they are still offered in the catalog as I feel they are extremely over-priced. With that being said, I still have them and use them every summer but have had several issues worth noting for others to consider. First, the nylon ended set screw is a terrible way to keep these secure. My nylon ends fell off almost immediately and of course damaged the paint on the door hinges. My work around for this was to insert adhesive backed Velcro pads (the soft or loop side, not the hooks) into the opening to 'cushion' the set screw and prevent further damage. These would function much better if the manufacturer used a bolt/threaded pin that went down through the hinge and secured in place with a nut from the bottom. The way the slip over the hinge with the notch does keep them in place however and doesn't seem to 'turn inward' at highway speeds. The second issue I had was the mirror and rubber gasket broke free on the highway from what I assume was a lack of proper silicone adhesive. The mirror of course broke but I managed to retrieve the gasket after a quick 1/4 mile hike up ad down the side of the highway. They were close to $150 after all!!! Had a replacement mirror cut for $7 and applied a generous amount of adhesive and so far its still good to go. As another post suggested, loosen the screws holding the ball and socket to adjust an then tighten them down good. They do vibrate at highway speeds but haven't come loose. $69 would be more of a fair price in my opinion.
Easy to use but they vibrate a lot. Be careful not to lose the plastic insert in the set screws or you WILL damage the pain on your door hinge.
These mirrors are not worth the price. I have had these for two years and the plastic cracked and broke. The mirror came off going down the highway. Take my advice and don't buy these. If you want a cheaper mirror go ahead and buy the mirrors constructed of medal.
Complete crap. Started flopping around and shaking like crazy after a few uses. One mirror even lost its grip and flopped downward on every bump. DO NOT BUY! I did replace these with some mounts(Quadratec does not carry) and some OEM replacement mirrors that work MUCH better.
