Reviews for Teraflex 1513001 TERA 9550 VSS Steering Stabilizer for 97-18 Jeep Wrangler TJ & JK
Great product

Nice improvement over OEM. Added the Relocation Kit, to complete the upgrade. A simple, easy install (hardest part is prying the old bracket off). Definately would say I can feel a improvement in the steering.

Easy to install. Great shock absorbancy.
Definitely a beefier unit over the stock part. Cured the bump steer the oem stabilizer had with 70,000mi. I like the fact it has a shield over the shaft end to keep salt spray, dirt/mud away. Simple replacement with basic tools. Mark the travel as instructed then position in the center(center reference dot with wheel centered).

It's very robust compared to what is currently on my jeep.
Great replacement over the Skyjacker. Works Great.
Ease of replacing factory original
Teraflex is just a great quality product I've used many times.
First try and felt the info was there
Part of 70,000 mile steering work - fit great and works well.
If you have an earlier JK with a stock steering stabilizer, do yourself a HUGE favor and replace it with the Teraflex 9550! Once I had mine installed, the difference in steering control was like night and day. My 2011 JKU always felt as if I had to constantly correct the "travel" side to side and it felt "loose". Once the Teraflex 9550 stabilizer was installed, as soon as I left the shop, the difference was extremely noticeable. I could never let go of the wheel without my Jeep traveling to one side or another. Now, I can actually let go and it will continue in a straight line further. Along with the Teraflex 2.5" lift package that was installed a few months ago, this is a must! Steering feels SOLID! A very big improvement. Thank you Quadratec and Teraflex!
After installing the new Teraflex 9550 stabilizer and Teraflex drag link on my wrangler the steering was 100% better. I was amazed at how much better it drove. I would definitely recommend it along with the drag link and track bar if you're having steering problems.
Nice solid stabilizer, just make sure you get the puller from Harbor Freight to remove the old pin if you are not going to replace the other steering components or watch the Youtube video saved me hours of frustration.
I ordered yesterday and received today. Really fast shipping and it’s just as described. I installed today and will try out tomorrow.
Great stabilizer, definitely an upgrade from my dinky stock one.
Fits right in 1997 Jeep Wrangler and works as described
I can’t believe I waited this long to do this! Have a JK with a 2.5” lift and 295/70r17s. I upgraded component after component on my suspension to make my ride feel smoother but I would always get a little bump steer and felt like I was wrestling the wheel at highway speeds. So I took the plunge on this product and holy $h** what a difference! Install was a snap, just be sure to mark the shock limit when fully extended and then when completely collapsed. You then want to find the mid point between those distances and then slide the mounting bracket on your tie rod left or right so that the steering stabilizer is centered. Had to move mine about an 1” to 1.5” toward the passenger tire side. After install turn your wheel stop to stop - you should not be anywhere near those max/min limits you marked. Great product don’t second guess your purchase decision.
Product is great and improved handling. Installation is virtually impossible without a pitman arm puller as the tapered end of the center bolt will not come loose. Checkout various youtube videos to save some frustration.
Installed on my 2009 wrangler in 15 mins. Works great!
I've had this for 18+ months now - works great and a huge upgrade over my stock stabilizer. Helped tighten up the front end and stop death wobble along with some other needed maintenance / replacements.
Good solid stabilizer. Mounted on a 2007 JK at same time that we installed a 2.5" lift and 34" tires. Jeep was in good shape with no major problems, but this makes it a pleasure to drive, especially at road speeds. I had to modify the factory bracket as indicated with a grinder because this is much larger diameter than the factory stabilizer.
It made a notiacble difference in reducing bumps and vibration in the steering wheel over my 11,000 mile old stock one with 35's.
money well spent. only had to move bracket 1 1/2" 45 minute job. smoothed the steering out-no longer fighting steering wheel shimmy
Solid replacement of the stock stabilizer. I changed mine out when I added a lift and the Front Adjustable Track Bar. The combination added some driving stability. It definitely feels less jittery on the road.
Really softened steering wheel feel and reduced driving fatigue. It didn't reduce my feel of control of the vehicle, but rather greatly improved it. We have a lot of brick roads around here and my steering wheel used to roll from side to side just driving down the street. There's a difference between feeling the road and getting beat up. Haven't had a chance to trail it yet, but that should be even softer than brick roads.
Got rid of death wobble...case closed!
Directions are for multiple years and could be a little more detailed. More companies are putting out these black and white directions with pictures that look like they were made on a bad copier. I almost just slapped this on in place of the old one without adjusting the bracket, then I found a Youtube video of a guy showing how to measure and mark the stabilizer to find the "center" before its on the jeep. I ended up having to loosen & move the bracket inward about 1" or so to center it. Got full lock left to right with no issues once it was installed. Some minor issues because this one is beefier than stock, like trimming the plastic on the stabilizer and rotating the stabilizer down a bit with the bracket to avoid it rubbing on other parts (2008 jk). My stock stabilizer had 70k hard miles and I could easily expand and contract it by hand once it was off the jeep, which it should not do. Now the steering left to right is tighter and less play. Well worth the time & money.
It works well. Easy install
My stock stabilizer had 100k miles on it and I was making a bunch of front end upgrades and suspension changes so I figured I'd go ahead and replace it with this. Seems to have firmed up the steering a little. I did have to fiddle around with the adjustment a few times as it was limiting my wheel turn to the left, but once I got it dialed in it was unnoticeable.
Gave me piece of mind after i installed lift kit and bigger tires.
Couldn't tell a huge difference over stock stabilizer but feel safer replacing on my daily driver with 33s and leveling kit
I just put this on my 2007 JKU after dealing with bump steer for a couple weeks. I really got tired of arm wrestling the steering wheel. It took me about 45 mins like another person mentioned, however, I went to the Jeep dealership and bought the updated mounting bracket. The updated mounting bracket no longer uses the u-bolt fasteners and instead uses a pinch bolt, for roughly $26.00 it is a massively better bracket!! Anyway, I no longer have bump steer and it functions wonderfully!! Great product Teraflex!!
This took about 45 minutes to install on my 2010 JKU Sport. Half the time was getting the old one off, it was a little seized on the bolt at the tie rod end. I followed the instructions though torquing at the tire side is impossible to get a torque wrench in due to clearance to the tie rod. I did not adjust the sliding pinch bolt or even loosen it. I put this on right where the stock SS was. Did the full lock steering test left and right, there was over an inch to the end of travel to either side of the new SS, so I packed up and called it a day. The ride really is night and day. I had 100k on my stock SS and never felt that it was a problem. Was I wrong. Steering is SO smooth and going over choppy bumps...you REALLY can feel it, not only in the steering but in the ride itself. The truck is less squirrelly...not that my rig ever was, or so I thought. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Manufactured well, fit Jeep TJ perfectly, and does what it's suppose to do and it does it well. Very pleased with purchase.
This replaced another after market one I had after I lifted my Jeep. What a huge difference. This one is so much better at the job its supposed to do. No more crazy wobble after hitting a pot hole. Well done Teraflex.
2008 jk I installed with teraflex HD steering kit, check my review on that item if your interested. I highly recommend relocating the axle end to the outside of the track bar mount with the bolt included in this kit otherwise it is very tight against axle when installed on stock stabilizer axle mount. You can get away with it but you will need to angle the tie rod end mount a little bit down so you have clearance under axle mount.
Good product fits good and easy to install.
This was an easy unit to install and certainly helped the vehicle's handling. Quadratec consistently sells the correct parts for my vehicle - unlike some other on-line retailers. Right part at the right price. Enough said.
Good price point and does the job well.
Well packaged. Thorough instructions. Moderately easy to install with normal hand tools. I suggest that you a pitman arm separator handy. Tapping with a hammer and a pickle fork didn’t loosen the factory hardware.
This steering stabilizer and a new Teraflex front track bar cleaned up my Jeep's handling. No more bump steer! Highly recommended.
Simple bolt on. Really smoothed out my steering. Top notch products from teraflex.
This was an easy install and nice upgrade. Althought the reviews on here were excellent I was still a little skeptical if this would be a big improvement. I can honestly say it was. My wheel has much less play in it and handling in general has made a huge improvement. After I lifted my JK and put 35's on handling to me became a little sloppy. This has definitely tightened and smoothed everything out. Great product!
I use these on my two jeeps. Good quality and hardware
My first aftermarket stabilizer was the Fox 2.0, but every time I hit the smallest bump on the highway the stabilizer pulled the wheels to the left. I thought my alignment was way off, and paid to have 2 shops confirm that the alignment was solid. I ripped the Fox out and put this in and its been a perfect ride since. Just does it's job without throwing off the alignment.
Good quality. Easy to install. Came with everything necessary.
nice stock absorber
Just installed this morning so the product has yet to be tested thoroughly so this is off of install and about a 30 min test drive. Install is pretty straight forward ever for the newest jeepers. Took about 30 mins from opening the box to fully installed. The drive consisted of winding back road and highway speeds up to 75 mph. No pull to either side and held control going over your "normal" pot holes and speed bumps. Some reviews state various issues, please note that you need to fully extend and compress the stabilizer to cycle the fluids or gas in the chamber a few times. And at the price offered its a steal. If you have death wobble a new stabilizer is not a permanent fix. But the bottom line is i would recommend this product giving the stand of time.
I had it installed in about 20 minutes. Love how it works.
Replaced the wet noodle that was on there. Nice and tight.
Just installed and took longer than planned, but worth it. After making sure of the install I took my jeep for a ride on one of the worst roads I have in the area. Could not believe at the difference! I usually drive with two hands on a bad road, this smoothed it out so one hand was more than needed. Hope it does this well on a windy day on the Interstate highway. Great product.
The steering stabilizer worked perfectly after going stock wheels to 35x12.5 20... Rides and steers perfect.
works great
This product fit great on my 98 Tj the install was super easy. This is a great replacemt for the factory oem steering stabilizer
install was easy steering is like new now
Quality of product and price.
Have one on my jeep now. But it got taken out and need replaced!
I hope this is a 4. Haven't received but read the reviews
I have a 2000 Wrangler TJ. The stabilizer is a great upgrade to the worn out smaller stabilizer. The only problem I had was on the head end of the stabilizer the mounting shoulder bolt was too large to fit through the existing bracket holes. You need to drill the bracket holes larger or use one of the supplied sleeves and a smaller bolt...the same size that was removed from the old mounting which is what I did.
Chucked that crappy old Jeep steering stabilizing shock after smacking enough potholes on I-95 around Philly, that was a much gooder upgrade than before. Still going strong after 5 years.
Had for about year, no issues yet.
Easy Intall.
Purchased this as I was getting a right pull in my jeep and getting bump steer when hitting grooves or potholes in the road. It is definitely a bit beefier than stock. It is a bit shorter than the stock one and I did have to adjust the location of the pinch bracket on my '14 a bit so the stabilizer didn't act as the stop and cause damage. I have about 1/8" to spare before extend/compressed. I put the front of my Jeep on jack stands so I could manually turn my wheels lock to lock and prevent damage. Overall my steering feels a lot tighter and does not want to pull as much. Kind of wish I went for an gas filled one to push me back to the left, but I'm hoping I can get this fixed when I do my lift and alignment. This stabilizer is not a drastic improvement but still a lot better than my leaky stock one. We will see how it holds up
Seems strong even after dents
Great replacement when I lifted my jeep
For the money, you can't beat this steering stabilizer. It smoothed a lot of steering feed-back for me, and the install was super easy.
You might not pick it up from the description but this is a one-size fits all product. The product includes hardware to fit a variety of vehicles. In terms of fitting a 2007 JK, it does fit but you have to cut about 1-1/2" off the hard plastic dust boot to prevent it from contacting the shock mount and it ends up leaving the piston rod exposed in hard right turns. The shock body is larger then the stock stabilizer so it is a very tight fit to get the mount aligned.
My old stabilizer had pieces rattling around inside of it so the performance of this stabilizer was felt immediately. Overall not a bad product.
A review process needs to be created so that duplicate parts are not ordered. Otherwise stabilizer works well.
Works but not as well as my Rancho one that I purchased 2 years ago for the same price. Takes a long time to come out of a wobble. Purchased this because my old one blew a seal.
I had a severe death wobble case this actually stopped it but unfortunately it only lasted 3 years (less than 30K) before it broke. Now I'm looking for a better replacement.
Nice product, easy to install .. But other than being new, is not an upgrade over stock stabilizer
Looks good but couldn't feel any difference
This is a piece of junk. Does not have consistent resistance back and forth. Bought it new this year. Could not stand the steering wheel shaking when hit bumps. I replaced it with an adjustable Falcon which I would highly recommend.
received this stabilizer, gave it the old push pull test and got cavitation fresh outta the box. I installed it figuring maybe it needs to internally purge or some sort of bleed itself and took it out for a drive over some small street potholes with steering wheel going crazy. Threw it in the trash after 100 miles. Very disappointed being I am a huge Teraflex fan.
I ordered this stabilizer. It arrived on time but after opening it one of the sleeves that fit in the bushing was missing. I talked to customer service and told her I was missing the one piece. She said she would send me another stabilizer. The new stabilizer arrived with no hardware just the shock. This is ridiculous!
Did not like. I went for the Bilstein stabilizer and notice great improvement.
