Reviews for Rampage Products Frameless Trail Top Soft Top for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
PROS:
1. cool look
2. on board storage of side & rear windows
3. reasonable price
4. nylon straps and Velcro held up for 4 years before needing replacement. Not sure how other products compare. Mind you this 4 years is under a brutal Texas sun and occasional coastal salt water atmosphere. Replacing the straps was pretty simple using strapping I ordered off ebay, a roll of Velcro from Walmart and a decent sewing needle with thick thread.
CONS:
1. absurdly difficult to install when new. I recommend not trying to install during winter months. Wait until it's over 85 degrees outside and lay the entire thing in the sun for several hours before breaking your zippers like I did - twice. Pull tabs would be quite helpful if the company decides to improve this product.
2. seam leakage directly over driver and passenger seats. The seam is treated with a sealant, but, inherent to the design, it gets pulled apart when you tighten down the rear straps to keep the top in place. I found that Home Depot sells "Never Wet" a really good water repellent spray that works well enough to effectively waterproof the seam. Just reapply every 6 months.
3. Zipper components are a bit weak for the tension they need to hold. I broke teeth, broke, the handle, and had the zipper come unsewn from the fabric at the rear window from the force required to zip everything back up. If you've been running without windows and it begins to rain and the temperature drops, you're likely to break something when you try to hurry up and reinstall the windows because the fabric and window material shrink a considerable amount as the temperature drops.
I replaced my rampage I bought in 2014 with this new rampage top and the quality has gone downhill big time. The material is thinner, the stitching is horrible! I bet I don’t get but 3 years out of this one and when I replace this one it definitely won’t be a rampage product, the old one was much better!!! You are warned don’t get this one.
Love the look of the top, installation was straight forward, however, when we installed it it didn't rain for weeks, but when it finally did, it leaked the first time and has every time it has rained. We have to keep a towel in the vehicle to absorb the water. We've tried contacting Quadratec MULTIPLE times for a replacement or another option, no one answers the phone or returns emails. We've been very lucky in all the other products we've ever ordered. Not this time. Disappointed.
Really tight out of the box, even when directions were followed 100% it took me and friends 2 days to stretch it out. I still cannot close the rear zippers, the teeth are sown incorrectly in spots and do not line up... we shall see how this works out. Its been on for 2 days and i already see the stitching pulling. Pretty disappointing for the price.
Not recommended. This top is not the worst, but there are some definite design issues. The straps are extremely low quality, and have dry-rotted multiple times in multiple places. I've had to use a punch-awl to resew them and make sure I can still use the top. The next time a strap breaks, I will be replacing this with something else. I do appreciate the well-designed window storage in the upper section of the top, but that isn't enough to save this product Less than two years and this thing is falling apart. I now basically leave the windows out all Spring/Summer, due to the worry I have of tightening down a strap and having it break.
Bought this top a few years ago and the sealing glue on this interior is coming apart and the back never could zip completely because it was way too tight. Even in hot temperatures the rear window zippers never seal right.
I would love the top if it wasn't for the way the back fits it's way to tight can't zip up now zipper is completely broken after 2 summers it's really sad they keep selling this to people the way that it is and wont do anything for the people that wasted there money on it!!
This is ridiculously difficult to put on. After 6 hours of 3 ppl trying to get this on my jeep, we finally gave up. We followed the instructions we had to download, because none were included. There was still about a 1.5 inch gap on each side where we could not get it pulled tight enough to zip it up. Ive given up on the frameless top and will just order a new soft top
Bought this top a little over 2 years ago. After the first summer it started leaking, I reached out to Rampage several times and they never responded. I was able to use waterproof spray which fixed the problem temporarily. Now there is no fixing it and I can watch the water drip onto the driver’s seat (or my head) even after attempting to seal it with flexiseal...
This is the second top the first top came with the jeep and after a few months started falling apart. The zippers didn't want to work and the straps started rotting off. The second top was bought three years ago, although its been broke for about six months now. All the straps ripped off with the slightest pull, even the ones not in the sun. Now its getting to be winter time and i'm stuck with no top don't waste your money or time fighting this top.
