Reviews for AEV 40303001AJ Heat Reduction Hood (Unpainted) with Black Mesh for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Outstanding product
Amazing customer service! AEV hood arrived with damage (buckling) which I’d assume is not uncommon with freight delivery. Quadratec agreed to refund the cost to repair and was extremely quick to reply to my claim. Hood looks amazing after repairs/matching paint. Hood is great quality as expected from AEV.
Best hood on the market imo.
Quadratec had a sale with free shipping so it was time to pull the trigger. I'm jusitifying the expense based on the expectation that I'll have a cooler engine compartment.
Mine arrived from FedEx undamaged, as I would expect most do.
Pros: everything about this hood is awesome. From looks to the surprising functionality.
Cons: shipping box was a little damaged and hood was a little warped. Body shop did their best to straighten it out but it is still a little raked on one side. It doesn't have a completely flush mount. After paint, you can't tell unless it is pointed out. Snorkel hides any offset on the passenger side.
Bought this hood for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. The hood came primed in E coat. Had my local body shop paint it to match colors. There were a few imperfections that came from the manufacturer, The hood was tucked under and had one minor warped spot that could have taken place during shipping. I really like the way it improved the look of the jeep. It is also very functional. After you shut the engine down you can see the "heat waves" coming from the top vent. I would highly recommend this hood if you are going to install the AEV snorkel.
Honestly, the hood is pretty solid and fit after minor adjustments. The body work pre e-coating was the issue. They had DEEP DA marks from 80~ grit and needed blocked and sanded and recoated to get the gouges out. I called AEV who was supposed to call the body shop for pictures and such so they can bring it up to their QC department. They didn’t unfortunately. It took them an extra 2 hours plus product to repair the damage.
Even though this is a steel hood, it takes as much finishing time as a fiberglass hood. The body shop I had to install mine had to put in an hour of extra time to get the trailing edge of the hood to line up with the cowl area. Its still not perfect, but this is an aftermarket part. As long as you keep that in mind and have the extra money to spend on getting it to work correctly and don't expect it to perform or look like a stock Jeep body part, you'll be fine.
Set your expectations accordingly.
