I had one of these on my 90 XJ years ago... so when it was time to replace (what’s the point to just replace when you can upgrade just as easily) it was a no brainer to go Rusty’s again. This new iteration is much better looking and much more refined. I did not have any rubbing or contact where it should not.
OFF ROAD ONLY, that's my advice. This steering setup loses turn radius, some on one side a lot on the other, I don't remember which. My Jeep 2001 TJ 3" lift.
02 Jeep TJ with 2.5” lift. Besides missing the parts bag everything was great. Did have some issue with a dual steering stabilizer set up but with some creativity it worked out. Easy to align if you do it right and measure.
99 TJ 4in lift with Drop Pitman arm. easy install. only issue I have is the Tie rod hitting passenger side sway bar bracket and Trackbar bolt. that being said my right handed thorns are limited but very minor. still can drive on the street and make right turns properly with no problem. other than that, pretty simple.
Installed on my 98 TJ that has a 2 inch lift. The design right out of the box interferes with the track bar bolt. Only way to avoid this is to limit right hand turning radius drastically. They could ship this with offset tie rod ends but for some reason they don't. Steering feel is better than stock but very twitchy. Cannot run a stabilizer as it causes the steering to wander and become even more twitchy. Stabilizer also hits the track bar when mounted as directed. I would not recommend this kit. Will have to buy some other solution now...
Installed on 97 grand Cherokee 4wd. If you are looking for something that bolts on, great. If you want to have clearance issues that effect the turning radius significantly then buy this... (sarcasm) If I had clearance issues with the with the differential cover I would be happy, instead, track bar bolt and the steering dampener. FYI, I have a stock Dana 35 front axle
It's heavy duty, but not for street. Alignments very hard to perform, had to weld in track bar bolt and grind head off to not hit. Yes hits cover on diff. Cover also...plus Pittman link is an 1" to short.
