Reviews for QuadraTop 13915-01 Emergency Top for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
Bought it for a 4-door JL and it works fine! Is it perfect, no, but it's to use in a pinch. When parked with heavy rain, puddles can form and such - maybe try a towel around the sound bar to make more of a slope. I used it In a HUGE storm and other than a few really small wet spots here and there it worked perfectly. I had to empty the low spots when I returned. Light to medium rain it would be fine. I wish they would have Plasti dipped the hooks though as they are bare metal and could scratch while installing.
The top works great! Weather report said clear and sunny skies all day so i decided to go up north for the weekend topless. By the afternoon I realized that the weather report was wrong. A storm showed up out of nowhere and poured for about a good hour. Luckily I pulled over at a restaurant and used the top. I never thought that I would have to use it but I’m glad I had it! It worked great!
good product. if you're caught in a pinch, you're probably still going to get a little wet but its nice. many of the other covers are full covers and you can not drive with them. This one is pretty convenient
"Emergency" means not for everyday use. This product is a great design but the material is thin and the straps are very thin as well as the steel hooks. I wouldn't go above 30mph with it as the stamps will not hold the cover on.
Would love to see a heavier duty version of this that isn't used for driving to provide a cover for a Jeep with all four doors off and a gobi rack.
Not very water resistant. Second time this season getting caught in rain. Installed properly and tight, then when the rain comes weighs it down and gets everything inside soaked. The heavier the rain the worse it is. Good for light rains and you can get home in a garage before the heavy rain falls or before it starts to leak due to being saturated.
From what I can tell they pretty much copied most (if not all) of the design from the original pavement ends model from several years before.
This and the Pavement ends one I had purchased years before both had fitment issues. I don't think they actually tried following their own printed directions as to how they install this thing. Someone should actually try out their products before offering to the public, and put more details.
For one, the instructions don't cover all the steps in putting this emergency top on. They forgot about a few steps as to putting on the straps for the parts covering the rear doors (on 4 door models), as well as how you're supposed to wrap those velcro wraps for around the door frame/seat belt support with the doors on.
Another big issues comes up when you have on the stock step rails and you try and hook the straps, which are attached to the material covering the rear doors, down under the body frame and between the rails and the body. For one there is possibly just barely enough space to squeeze the plastic hooks down in between (if at all), but the rear most straps need to be loosened up more in order to pull them to the back of the rail and slide the hook along in between the frame and rail, just in order to get it in the proper area. When you go to tighten the straps is where the even bigger problem occurs. You can pull on the excess strap to tighten it up ok, but doing so pulls the plastic latch down in between the rail and the body frame. I then dare you to try and "Easily" loosen the strap to try and take it off. It's nigh impossible. The plastic latch is squeezed down there and it is impossible to pull back on it to loosen it. It can take quite a bit of fussing around and patience to wiggle and wiggle and wiggle....(maybe even using a screwdriver or something) and you might get it loose enough that you can get the hook out and pulled back up. Short of that the only thing any sane person would do is just cut the strap off (of course making this thing a one time use and disposable).
Then there's the issue with trying to get the velcro straps to wrap around the door frame with the door on. To even have a chance at getting them in you have to sit inside the back of the jeep, and then open the door slightly to try and get your fingers in between to try and pull the one half of the straps between the door and frame. Once pulled in you can attach the straps and then try and carefully slam your rear door shut. Then once you've gotten both sides strapped around the center frame you can climb over your seats in order to get out. If you had other passengers like I did one time I had a need to use it, then you have to ask your passengers to get in first and tell them they aren't getting back out easily or until you try and take the top off.
Even after all that fuss and muss, it is still slightly functional (however screwed up as to it's effectiveness because of the material that was chosen). You can drive along with it on at higher speeds if you have it strapped down pretty good, but of course it will flap quite a bit in the wind. The other problem with it is it's actual effectiveness which leaves quite a bit to be desired. Much of the rain in a normal every day storm is blocked, but after just a minute or two rain water leaches through the material as drops all over the place. My only cure for this was to have out a hand towel or something to constantly carefully wipe along the ceiling trying to catch most of the drops before they fall (and occasionally wringing out the towel).
Essentially this type of thing needs more of a redesign and choice of material (or treatment on the material that thoroughly blocks rain water all the time over the course of occasional use over several years). Some people I've talked to with older jeeps find it more effective using better quality tarps with strategic tie downs. One would have thought the designers could have thought of using materials like that which more thoroughly protects things from weather.
This "emergency" top is terrible!! Saw the rain coming and got cover on before rain started and started driving home. After 3 minutes of a major downpour, the top was completely leaking through and dripping water inside everywhere! Ended up sitting in a bank drive-thru to stay dry. I was only 8 minutes from home, but couldn't make it there without being completely soaked inside!! I would NOT recommend this item! I should get a refund!!
