Reviews for Rubicon Express REA1015 Gas Tank Skid Plate for 07-15 Jeep Wrangler JK 2 Door
It worked great. I had to remove the rusted out stock skid plate after it got smashed when I drove through some rocks. One thing to note, the skid plate is what holds the fuel tank up. You can install it right over the original skid plate or remove the stock one. I recommend installing it with low fuel so there is less wight. I was able to use 2 ratchet straps that wrapped around my rocker guards and under the fuel tank with a jack to keep the fuel tank up while I was changing the skid plate. It is a very nice fuel tank skid plate.
Value and features
This was a nice and easy, no pain, fit flush install. I wasted time cleaning up the MFR skid, painting it to stop some rust. I did use vise grips to get a nice snug fit for the 1 bolt hole you have to drill. Vacuumed the bits. Bolt it up. Nice Fit.
When I ordered this, I thought it was a replacement for the OEM. It's just an overlay, and yes, you have to drill.
Decent part for the money. Rear could use some additonial brackets for support. Wasn't clear to me when I purchased that it simply stacks on top of the OE gas skid.
Does not fit well with the MORE transfer skid plate. I had to cut the MORE part to fit.
Product is fine, but the installation for this is simply awful. Most people who come across this are looking to replace their factory gas tank skid plate. This is NOT meant to fully replace it, but the part itself will work if you just cleanup what is left of the existing plate and mount this over it. The plate itself looks like it is made of a good quality metal, but the reason for the poor review is that they don't give you anything to mount the plate on the rear part of the vehicle. I literally needed to have two custom brackets made just to be able to securely mount this to the rear. They don't give you anything other than the bolts and tell you "Well, here ya go, good luck." If they just gave you two long brackets to mount the piece on the rear, I'd give this 5 stars; but as far as I am concerned, this is an incomplete package and made this job much much harder than it needed to be.
