Reviews for Smittybilt Security Console for 76-95 Jeep CJ & Wrangler YJ
Performs as expected
Exactly as described in on-line product information. Good product and craftmanship.
I have had Smittybilt products in the past and they are quality
Overall quality is good. I’d give it a 4 out of 5. I can’t give it a 5 due to the fact that the front bolt was a mile too long at 7” and it only needed 2.5”...which of course I didn’t have! You’d think they’d have that little detail ironed out by now. And the color doesn’t exactly match the seats. But it’s close enough.
Nice product. Tight fit but worked well in my 95. Hardware and instructions were a bit off though
Secure box but pad color is a little different than original seats or after market seats.
This item can installed in my 78CJ-7 from the previous owner. Lots of storage, the locking latch takes some figiditing before it locks and the cup holders can expand to hold larger sized drinks. Primary drawback to this console is I cannot put my rig into 4WD Low because the drink holders do not allow the shifter to drop all the way back. I've considered removing the drink holders (i.e., cutting them off) but that's just one of many items that need attention on my old Jeep.
Nice console; well built, tons of storage, easy to install. The reason for only 4 stars is this console and Corbeau Moab seats are too wide. The Bestop Trail 2 seats and this console barely fit. Needs more R&D
Overall seems solid low cost center console. Here's the issues I had: Have to assemble, base mount holes did not align with Console holes, minor bend adjustment and fits. Sharp edges on the front of the console cover. Appears to be dirt in the paint. As in other reviews, front bolt much too long. I am replacing a tub, installing weld nuts for ease of installation. The bolts did not fit my weld nuts, had to run a die over the entire length of the bolt. Claims it is a 3/8-16 thread, fit the supplied nut, but not a weld nut or die. Probably cheaper to throw out the hardware and start over, but spent 1/2 hour running the die over each bolt. Last, the console base is not contoured. Basically you are putting down a square plate and bolting in 3 places. Bolts hold in place.
Overall, a pretty good console for the money, just don't set expectations too high. It is a cheap import.
Too wide for YJ
