Reviews for Alpine HCE-TCAM1-WRA Spare Tire Rear View Camera & Light System for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I was looking for an "elegant" way to upgrade the stock stereo to add backup camera and Apple Car play. Paired this with an Alpine Head Unit (Alpine iLX-W650). Very impressed with both. The camera and light feel very solid and well engineered. Works seemlessly and this and the head unit allow all jeep controls to function normally if you get the right wiring kit. I chose professional installation because that is not my strong point, and am very happy with the result. I've read some negative reviews on the head unit because background and other things are not as customizable as others, but interface is logical and it is very customizable with regard to audio, so it does everything I want it to. Since I live on Apple Car Play, and that will dominate the background, paying more for deeper levels of customization was not a priority at all for me. I am very happy with both and their integration with stock Jeep controls.
Bought this for my 2018 JK Sahara and it’s one of the best purchases I made for my car. It’s made it easier to back out of my steep driveway and park where I work in the city. I didn’t trust myself to install it so I took it to someone to install and then took it to Jeep to have it programmed to my stereo. Overall very happy with my purchase.
I love it. Makes backup with precision easy. I recommend this product and would buy it again. The only con is the small rubber plug keeps getting lost, this is the black rubber plug located dead center on the unit.
I like it. Would probably like it more if it was solid flat black. Only two issues I have is the cost and the mounting hardware. The mounting hardware is not very durable and I might have a weld shop make an attachment that isn't as hokie. Image quality is good during the day and night. I'd recommend it's purchase.
Works well. I will say all the pictures show this without thew factory periscope 3rd brake light. It's much easier to photoshop that out that it was to remove it. The install instructions don't even touch on that but even the Alpine videos refer to removing it. Basically you have to remove the tire carrier and hack it off.
Nice camera, it doesn't have parking grid lines come through the 430 RBZ radio though... Alpine was called and it isn't a feature.
Camera is awesome when it works, however I have experienced the cable issue. Been an electrician I was able to isolate the short!! It’s going to be around the hinge where the cable is being bent/flexed, continuously with the door being opened and closed.
Works well except in bright outside light. The camera gets washed out and it does not help when trying to hook a receiver up to a hitch.
Had the same issue with the wiring eventually it started to break made contact with the medal rear bumper and shorted the camera. I won't buy a replacement not for this price again
The camera itself works great. The wiring is awful. Unfortunately I had to give up after the wiring broke four different times after being professionally installed by three different installers.
